Anyone tried it? I was with my drill for more than half and hour yesterday, trying to drill a hole on my 486, 586 and Pentium, but not even a small depression was made! Anyone have a remedy for this?
A top quality titanium or zirconium drill bit helps. Or try a dremel with a very small aluminum oxide grinding stone/
Don't forget diamond . And by the way yeah a few people have done this before. This method gets round the drilling problem though.
An ultrasonic drill will do the job too... ...or you can just break a new XP chip, the 'stuff' amd use to enclose the transistorie goodness in on the new XP chips feels a lot more drillable than the old 'slate like' stuff 'Very technical Rob' they call be back at home you know Rob.
Evostick holds my keyring together, and has done for months without even a hint of budging. I just glued the eyelet onto the pins of a single chip (duron 750).
That's organic packaging AMD used. I have never crushed any AMD cores, altough I have been removing and fitting back HSF on my system almost 10 times a week, so please dun remind me of crushed cores and stuffs It may just be my turn next!
No I've never crushed a core and I've fitted far too many HSF's now for it to be easy to do I did kill an XP2200+ recently though (popped it in the socket, started taking piccies and then the mobo sprang to life... really should have unpluged the power supply, oh well) - so i've got keyring material I made a tbird 1400 keyring using anultrasonic drill (I bought the chip dead), but I managed to snap the chip in my pocket a few weeks after making it You need a chuffin drill worth 10's of thousands of pounds tomake a hole in one and then a few weeks later you snap it by sitting on it! Hehe... Rob.
aye ive got a dx 2 66 sitting in frotn of me and believe me when i say the thing is had. prob easier to glue a chain onto the pins. but i maight have a go with my dremel at some point...
For me the drilling is not a problem - the problem are the cpus - cannot get them anywhere - and I do >NOT< want to burn MY precious Athlon XP 2000+
Well maybe you'll get luky and the heatsink might fall off or something, iSteve . PS fohkus: I just mentioned that thread. Look at the third post .
Yep, I did mine here. http://www.bobx.fsnet.co.uk/mods/keyring.htm I had a bit of a laugh doing it - and gave up trying to drill thru.
Well it's been a month or two since the mod and mine is still holding up. The method I used might be lazy, but it seems to work
