I found a person who is selling loads of arcade cabinets for cheap, close nearby. Of course, this oppurtunity *has* to be taken and so I've decided to create a MAME Arcade Cabinet to show off in my room . Anyway, there's still an original arcade monitor in, and it has two joysticks and 2x 4 buttons with a JAMMA connection. There are 2 start buttons and coinacceptors. There's a power supply inside as well. I'm planning on using an old PII 233 with an nVidia TNT2 M64, a card that is supposed to be able to run at a frequency of 15KHz which I heard is the native frequency of arcade monitors. I'm probably going to buy a J-PAC from Ultimarc to connect the JAMMA-thingy to my PC. This isn't entirely necessary as I have the tools and could get the knowledge to program a PIC and create a board that connects to all the buttons and to the PC, but the J-PAC also enhances the VGA signal from a PC (from 1v to 5v or something, I don't know much about it). Are there any other things I should look at, before I buy it? Also I want to redecorate it so if anyone knows sites with nice retro pictures on it for me to print it'd be appreciated
Nice one dude, go for it. It sounds like you know what you are talking about. I can't really offer any advice, just moral support I love retro arcade mods. oh, if you need someone to help you test it when you are done then I'm your man. I'll need expenses but we can sort something out..
Okay, I'm getting them tomorrow! Hope they'll be in a reasonable state. No one has ideas or examples of decorated arcade machines yet? I really don't plan on leaving it boring!
Post pics once you get it What type of images are you looking for? Pac-man? Mario? Arkanoid? :edit: A simple pac-man styled one Various Themes
I used to have one in my living room before I moved... can't be of much technical help as I used a TV as a monitor but I had a I-pac and an opti-pac from ultimarc anad they were brilliant. and I spent hours on the above website reading all the FAQ's and people work logs and stuff so Irecommend you spend some time there....... feeling sad now... I miss my cab 4 players and a 3 1/2" track ball.... Oh well the other half said I could have one once the extention was built and the builders left week before chrimbo so I best start saving!!!
Sp it's not that expensive if you can find one like I have. I only need to buy the J-PAC (which is quite expensive) and redecorate it. Possibly clean it out as well. I think it'll cost me about 100 euro, all in.
No, I know but it's like £100ish for a cab and then the J pac and a sutible graphics card for Pc then the PC which I've still got knocking about from the last one but might be due an upgrade. so I'm probably looking for £300ish and I've got my wedding to pay for so it might take a while...
to be fair m8, ur gonna need something a bit more beefier than a P2 233.. some of the games you can get hold of require a hefty system spec... why not check out my m8's forum, there's plenty of advice to be had over there... http://digitalarcade.proboards38.com/
Yes I've figured that out as well. I'm probably going to buy some second hand 700Mhz mobo and processor.
