Yep. The only cinemas with affordable food are the ones with the weeks-old or second-run movies. Royalties they pay out on ticket sales are much lower after opening weekend (I think the theatre doesn't keep ANY of ticket revenue opening weekend, and I'm sure it's no more than 5%) so they really don't make much money on newer movies, and stay in business because of the overpriced candy. But then the theatres with the older movies can charge a lot less for both tickets and food since they get to keep something like 80% of the ticket price. /sarcasm?
£7.50! ****ing hell, our Vue went from £6.90 to £7.15, and a lot of people were cheesed off because of it.
Definitely. Dollar theaters . Around these parts, they tend to open....close....open...close...etc..etc. It's annoying, but when the grass is green it's nice.
the thing i hate most about the cinema is popcorn. a) i dont like it, probably wouldnt notice the difference if they swapped it with bits of cardboard. b) it seems to be the loudest food in the world which is pretty much only eaten when you dont want extra noise c) the people who eat it all seem to have palsy as its always on the floor and makes my shoes all sticky i dont bother buying food in the cinema, my local one wants £1.90 for a 500ml bottle of coke! i do quite like arthouse cinemas tho, as they tend too have decent bars, quite often let you take your pint in, and show films that wont be full of people wearing kappa. Recently-ish ive developed a liking of music documentaries at these kinda cinemas (joe strummer and scott walker ones were both great) and yes, im a pretentious git!
Independant / Art house cinema is great. Shame the closest for me is Brixton. The thing i hate about main stream cinemas is the crap sound and picture. Look at adverts with straight lines running horizontal / vertical from one end to the other, they are always heavily curved. Also it is often not in focus, but only a tiny bit out so no one really notices. Except me it seems. Really pisses me off.
I can agree with that. I tend to not go to the cinema unless it's being digitally projected. DLP Cheesecake! Anything else, I wait for the disc.
Last time my wife dragged me to see a fillum she produced 6 cans of beer out of her bag as a reward. Do cinemas sell beer? So I'm not competing with their offerings.
My local UCI is right next to a now Morisons store, which my friends and I would always make a stop off at, prior to UCI, specialy the early days when could get 2ltr's of value lemmonade for just 15pence =], beats there £3odd for a paper cup's worth!
whats a diet? where is the gobbling food smilie? im pretty sure diet just means nasty, especially when regarding irn bru and lilt
ROFL!! With a mouth full of sweets and other foods, cant really say we noticed much of a difference Thankfully with now the aid of having a job, can leave those value days behind hehe.
it costs me eleven pound a month to see as many films as I like at the local cinema they have a system where you get the card and just show up and theres no limit (unfortunately) to the number of films you can see. I say unfortunately because my GF is a harry potter-ite (also know as a screwball) who insisted on watching the order of the phoenix 5 times in one day. I'm just glad thats theres a Macdonald's across the road from it and that theres pubs on the way home!!!!
Ok... I like HP and all (though thought the movies have gone downhill since the first), but that's nuts.
