Yers it is Fod, but it's been going on for years now. The main reson people in the competitive online gaming community buy/ sell steam accounts is to get a lower steam ID. Lower ID means people think you've been playing longer (obviously if you bought it, it doesn't) and old accounts usually have a lot of games on them in the first place.

That's interesting, never heard of that before!

Not that I have the slightest interest in selling my account, but is my ID considered "low" out of curiosity? I think I signed up not long after Steam was released....my account name is an email too which got changed to nicknames several years ago (annoyingly its an email I dont even use anymore too).

    Sold!...err, wait a minute.

I dont know how they sell accounts with so many games on, they must either be giving up PC gaming, or their really desperate for money....

EDIT: Ok I should have read the article, he IS actually playing games less!

Kind of similar to something I saw on ebay once. A guy bought a cheap HDD, ripped all his music to it, then tried selling it for $300 or something.

his account is a 5 digits (11578), which is quite rare nowadays

I personally have a 6 digits, not that it matters at all ...

edit: oh nevermind I got what you meant after checking yours.... mmm that's a good question actually

No idea what the 0:1: part means. Registered that account way back when Steam was in beta IIRC. Could have been gold though, been years so I've forgotten.

[Edit]AFAIK its a serial of some sort. Someone registers a new account and it gets assigned latest_ID+1 or something.[/Edit]

OK, this may be a stupid question, but why the f*** does it matter how long ago you signed up for a Steam account?

Somebody playing CS:S for 6 years or somebody playing for 2 months, which would you rather have on your team?

Whoever was the better player. So while I know people that have been playing for several years will be pretty good, the age of a Steam account isn't exactly a reliable indicator of skill level. If someone with an old account gets their ass handed to them by someone who signed up yesterday, what good is it then? It's not going to make you a better player. I just can't fathom why people would pay such large sums of money solely for that reason.
