that could be a new virus. it attacks and the computer does an electric light show and everything BURNS!!!!
That's rather worrying. I have 2 LG DVD drives and an LG CD burner. Glad I wasn't planning on trying Mandrake any time soon.
And this is why Linux will never be accepted by the general public At least Microsoft dosnt kill your hardware (maybe )...
it might also be the odd thing that you need to know abit about the OS to run it and majority of people prefer to stay away from that. Also Microsoft has a huge buget and can test its software for major bugs like that, Linux is copylefted and has a tiny buget compaired. you dont expect a small team to test their software on everything ever created to make sure it doesnt damage it?
I read the article yesterday and found that it will only effect the LG cd-roms, not the burners. From what I can tell, it will kill the rom drive with a flush command which is standard with burners. Also, according to Mandrake, the problem has been addressed. It's really more of a problem with the drives themselves and not the OS or software - that's why it effected only the LG drives and not Sony's, TDK's or any other brand. There is a little known bug within the LG drives which will allow a rogue program to kill the drive with Windows too.
But it does wipeout 14GB partitions... you click on one partition to free up, and it went and killed the wrong one as well I was not happy
smirk all you want, but I clicked on the correct one, I suspect it was because it was a section of the hdd devoted to linux that I wanted to reclaim. I got all the data back via data recovery tools though, because it only wiped the partition tables.... was a right pain though. A.
lg equitment isint that gereat anyways and linux owns ms dosent destroy ur hardware it owns your life i think the path to redemtion is paved wit many broken windows cd's and pits of noccompliant hardware..........................open source will rise up and rule the world because it is freedom fro m digital tirany
