Linux mandrake boots from cd but slackware wont

    like the title says
    mandrake 9.1 will boot from cd but slackware 8.1 and 9.0 wont ive checked all the checksums and stuff and they are all ok and all the disks were burnt using nero with exactly the same settings.
    i would boot using floppys but i dont have enough working ones

    any ideas? (appart from go buy some floppys)

    i was confused because the install guide for slackware8.1 with apache seemed to say that it would boot from cd. managed to find 2 floppys lets just hope these work and it actually installs

    EDIT doh i understand now . . . time to go shopping indeed :(

    You must have something hosed up... the copy of SL9 i burnt from the ISO boots just fine, installed it on 8 different machines so far.

    /Looks at wifey's machine :worried: wonder if she'd notice?

    yeah it will boot on my main machine but not the one i wanted to install on

    unfortunately the shop wasnt open today so i had to dig through about 100 floppys to find 6 working ones to install but its working now . . . just need to work out how to get the frp working

    just found out why it slack wouldnt boot on that pc and thought it might be worth posting just for reference.
    it turns out that most distros use boot floppy emulation to boot from cd and slack doesnt it actually has a proper bootable cd sadly some older bioses . . .bios' . . . biosi . . hmmm <plural of bios> dont like proper bootable cds but do like boot floppy emulation so mandrake will boot but slack wont

    hope this will help someone in future
