Just went back to maplin..the cold cathodes and the PSUs are now listed as unavailable - could this be because of all the problems ? Not just broken tubes..but hearing tales of dodgy tubes that 'bink' and/or don't light up properly, and inverters that go up in smoke, inverters that just don't work at all... what on earth went wrong...ah well

Stores have been supplied with them so check your local store for availablility. My store has some, but I'm afraid I have first dabs on them (one of the few perks of the job). Just as I thought, they are entirely out of stock (temporarily) in the warehouse. All stock has been transferred to the stores in preparation for the offer that is valid sunday onwards. So get into those stores, at least you can check if they are intact b4 buying. I put my ones aside today, two pink, two black and two blue; leaving two green ones (not my thang). Remember, if you call a store and they have none in stock, they can check the local stores for availabilty. Are the shops likely to be OK about people going in advance of the promotion and asking about it? Particularly if you ask them put them by until Sunday so you can get the free inverters
Just go in and ask them to reserve them for you... put a one pound deposit on them or something. When you go back after sunday ask them to recheck the price (they will probably realise what you are doing anyway). BTW, the manager can't say no to a deposit, so don't let them tell you otherwise. The deposit is not necessary but makes sure the staff can't say anything like "oh sorry it's been sold" as company policy says they have to keep them for you. Fly
Yellow ones are back in stock on the 26 September 2001, 250 of them. they should be available for purchase about 4 days later (after going through Quality Control). Not in the offer though... Fly
About 6-8 weeks ago I ordered Blues from my local Maplin. Still waiting for the phone call to say their in stock. Should they should be in stock by now?
pop in and ask where they are...say you phoned head office and they said he had to phone the stock controller to them to get them in... Fly
I went to the maidstone store today and the guy said that they'd run out of the CC psu's so they could not sell the cathodes.
