I've never had any problems with this before, but I'm trying to get a Win98 machine (my dedicated DVD burning PC) to map some hdd's on my server and on my workstation - but apparently the password that i enter is invalid. they're all defenetly on the same workgroup, and no, caps lock isnt on. =)

i don't know what else to try!
    any ideas?

Enable the guest account on your server and give relevant access to the folders in question or make a username and password on your win 98 machine the same as one on your server.

Try setting the network permissions as "NETWORK" that's the only way i managed to get it to work on my network here between a win98, winME and this 2k machine...

Go to the fileserver - the one in which the drives you are trying to share. View the sharing options for that drive. Click "Share This Folder" then click on the "Permissions" button. Go to "Add" then add the "NETWORK" option. It should now be possible to share drives across the two different kinds of OS (NT and 9x)... I'm presuming this is the problem - i've solved this for this now.
