    Right guys here's the dilema.

I haven't played either game yet, however really want to play Mass Effect 2 from the reviews etc etc.

Is it worth playing through Mass Effect first and then moving onto Mass Effect 2 or is it easy enough to just play Mass Effect 2?

    ME, then ME2.

You don't skip the first part of a book either, do you... :)

As above, while you could play the second first. I wouldn't - the story is too good to miss out on!

If you're very rushed for time, I'd go straight into ME2. If not, definitely play both.

ME1 is good and you will miss out on some great storyline points if you simply miss it out.

But having said that, I played ME1 a few years ago and then only played ME2 a month ago (without replaying ME1 first). My memory of ME1's storyline was naturally sketchy, but I found that ME2 was fine overall.

There were a few references which made me think "Ohh yeah, I sort of remember that from ME1", but overall it was fine.

I have been wondering this too. Everybody seems to recommend playing ME1 first, but reading all the reviews of ME2 gives the impression that it has improved and fixed so many parts of ME1 that surely ME1 can't be playable any more :O

No point playing ME2 without ME1, the whole point of the Mass Effect trilogy is the story and your savegames carry over.

Besides, the first game is just as "good" gameplay-wise, the changes in the sequel aren't significant enough to justify skipping the first.

yeah, there are loads of little extras in Mass effect 2 that just aren't there if you don't import your savegames.

Definitely play the first one before the second. There are soooo many more options available in the second game if you do so. And the first one doesn't take that long to beat. In fact, I just bought the Liara DLC for ME2 several weeks back and realized I hadn't romanced her with any of my ME1 characters, so I actually went back and beat 1 so I could have this option in 2....I know, pathetic right? I saw it as an excuse to replay the first.

You simply have to play ME first and then ME2 firstly because of the story and progession through the games universe but also you will appreciate all the improvements a heck of a lot more in ME2.

Once you have played ME2 you WILL want to see how it began and may be slightly underwhelmed by ME.

As said, ME first then ME2. I've just started ME again so that I can import another Shep into ME2.

I'm playing through the first now, in preperation for the second and then third. It's amazing ^^ and from what I'm told the second is the first plus decent inventory system and sans lift levels, which makes me dribble with excitement . . .

It's well worth playing ME then ME2. Not only will you get a good background for the universe, but you'll get to see your character develop and then import into ME2 and in the future ME3 (remember to back up those saves!).

I originally played ME but then uninstalled it. Played ME2 as soon as it came out, and whilst it was still amazing, I felt my character was a little hollow, so I went back and replayed ME with a brand new character and now I'm going through ME2 again and I have to say, I'm enjoying it more than the first play through. :hip:

There is a special place reserved in hell for people who don't play ME1 before ME2 and people who talk at the theatre .

I played ME 1 about three weeks ago and it still holds up well!

Mass Effect 1 first, then the sequel.

Also, just in case you haven't bought the Mass Effect games yet, they're 50% off on Steam :D
