Budget: around £1500 (including monitor) Main uses of intended build: gaming and graphics editing Parts required: everything Previous build information (list details of parts): N/A Monitor resolution: I need one and looking to the magazine suggestion I was thinking about the Dell U2412M Storage requirements: I was looking for a SSD as boot device and 1/2 TB for storage Will you be overclocking: yes even if I never overclocked Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): N/A Extra information about desired system: N/A Here is my build... every suggestion if really really appreciate! The last build I made was around 5/6 years ago CPU Intel I7-3770K MOTHERBOARD ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe GRAPHIC CARD Zotac GeForce GTX 680 SSD Corsair Force Series 3 120GB HDD Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 rpm RAM Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz DDR3 8GB CASE Corsair Carbide Series 500R PSU Corsair 650w Enthusiastic Series V2 MONITOR Dell Ultrasharp U2412M
The build looks really solid. The only change I would make personally would be to drop from a 680 to a 670 and use the difference to get a 240-256 GB SSD. Apart from that, it looks very well balanced to me.
I think you have it spot on. I have a 120GB SSD for my primary and I find it is more than enough for the main 3-5 games I play along with my OS and the Autodesk Suites I use. So I'd keep it exactly how it is, good components, good brands, solid setup.
It all looks fine aside from you haven't mentioned a cpu cooler and if you want to overclock you will need good one. H100 is £78 at scan.. dropping to a 670 would cover it and its essential for that chip
woooooow! thanks to all for the help... I was looking for an CPU cooler and I was thinking about the be quiet! dark rock pro. My only concern is about the measures.
They're big beastys, but mine fits in a cm HAF922, which is similar proportions to a 500R so you should be fine. But a H100 out performs the Dark rock all day every day... Edit; I just bought a dell U2412M last month. I have been very impressed so far. It will do you proud.
I personally would not get an IB chip, but only because of their heat output being massive. I cant deny they perform brilliantly, but not by a big enough margin over a 2700k for me to choose it. I agree about getting the 670 instead of the 680, and i would recommend going for a 256gb SSD while the prices are low. Also make sure you get a decent enough cooler if you plan on overclocking. If you go Ivy Bridge then you will need something mega, if you go Sandy Bridge then your options are much more varied and cheaper! Good luck, let us know how you get on
I agree with Bdigital on this... Guys as hes overclocking it negates the good points of having an Ivy Bridge chip. Its well known that overclocking IB causes massive heat issues. The performance once overclocked isn't that much bigger than a 2600k which is also OC'd. Plus you end up spending 80 quid on a Corsair H100 or whatever to keep the damn thing cool....compared to a 2600K cooled by a TT Frio (£46), or Dark Rock Advanced (£40) I see IB as a the best chip to have at stock speeds for its performance/heat ratio, but as soon as your planning on overclocking it you might as well just get a 2600k - and overclock that. In your budget 16GB of RAM should be included. The Crucial M4's or Samsung SSD's would be a better choice, and there always on offer.
Since I don't know if and when I can overclock the CPU, I think 3770K is the best one I can buy. Which are the differences beetween a Corsair and a Crucial/Samsung SSD? Then, why are you suggesting getting a 670 instead of a 680? Finally, do you think that 16GB can really make the difference? Thanks in advance
