Very nice - shame it wont have the burble or purr of a straight or V engine though, inline 4's sound a bit pants :D

    Um...It is a straight engine ;)

The newer ones seem rather bulky...

Evo VI or VII, please :)

RTT means an inline 4 doesn't sound as good as a flat 4 or V engine ;) he practically creams himself everytime he hears a Scooby STi :hehe:. The flat four in the Imprezas sounds great.

Evo's are great cars IMHO, rarer than Imprezas, and are generally more tuneable, and more powerful in standard trim if we're comparing the more common Scooby WRX and not the WRX STi. Still think I'd pick the Impreza over an Evo though, to me it looks nicer and is more aggressive and it sounds nicer :thumb:

Is his Evo VIII the 'normal' one or more powerful FQ-300 version?(I reckon the FQ means ******* Quality :D)

    No it isn't

Flat four - two pairs of pistons, horizontally opposed.

Often called 'boxer' (the pistons look like two boxers back to back, punching alternately).

Straight four = four pistons arranged in one straght line.

Except 'straight' engines are usually known as engines that are perpendicular to the axels, inlines are parallel to the axels. :)

well, thats how I know them to be :worried:

    EEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVOOOOOOOOOOO :D

    me like :D
Theres a silver one you see sometimes around campus, havent had a good look at it but it sounds nice. Theres also a v nice white Scooby that hangs around engineering, that looks (and sounds) sweet as ****. I'd prefer a skyline tho

PS: perpendicular to axels = longitudinal
    parallel = transverse

LOL, economy ! 18mpg is hardly frugal - especially at UK fuel prices. And the tiddly 50 litre fuel tank needs refilling every 150 miles or so !
Still a great motor though - the active yaw control system on it means you have to be really mental with it to break traction. I agree with the noise comments though, it sounds a bit tinny (compared to my WRX with Prodrive backbox ;) )

At what point in Cosworth's history did he work for them?

Can you ask him if he knows of any decent 2.2 or 2.4 BDAs around...?

    ;)

As far as I can remember they were an evolution of the old F1 engine that was then dropped into mkII Escorts for rallying....

1984 seems to ring bells but I dunno why...

that would be transverse and longitudinal

edit: how do these cars have 4wd with a transversely mounted engine?

i know how a land rover's 4wd works (transfer box), but that can't really work when the engine's the wrong way around, can it? :s
