I really need to buy a new game before I pass out, and everyone is going on about how brilliant Max Payne is. I liked the demo, but is it worth shelving out £30 to buy the whole game?

Max payne is a really good game, and as one of my mates is finding out, is ABSOLUTELY FARKIN MASSIVE. it's well worth buying IMO

i played the AvP2 demo but it looks nearly the same as AvP 1 to me... not trying to start a flamewar, just my opinoin.

Why AvP2 instead? I've got both, and they both have about the same amount of game time in them. Somehere in the region of 12-15 hours total.

Max is great game. It doesn't have a high replay value, but having said that I played through it again recently, and throughtly enjoyed myself :) There's no multiplayer options either, but there are a few different mods out for it.

AvP2 is a pretty decent game as well, but because it is basically 3 games in 1, each is rather short. I would estimate 4 for 5 hours of game time per character.

Online play with AvP2 is great fun, but it depends on your feelings about multiplayer games.

But this is all you do in Max Payne:

    A. Run in to room (some are bigger than others WOW!!)
    B. Slowdown time
    C. Shoot Reload Shoot
    D. Repeat till end of game

Think about it because you know its true ;)

And as for AvP2 yes I know it looks the same but its not the point now it has a story and a very good one to unlike AvP 1 which had no story at all :)

Bought Max payne for 30 gold ones, played it for 3 days, put it in the cuboard where it has been for many a month,

    AVP2 = multiplayer
    Max Paynee = not,

Maybe I was a little harsh with my previous post ;) but still Max Payne is not the be all end all of 3d shooters most mags and websites make it out to be.

I myself played Max Payne through the first 3 acts I think.

I played the AvP 2 demo for about 5 minutes ;)

preferably, ALL I would play are multiplayer games, but i'm not allowed at work and i'm currently internet-less at home and it's REALLY annoying!

IMHO, the single player game in Max Payne is much stronger than that in AvP2. Yes you have 3 little sub games with different characters to play, but I never really got into the story that much. It seemed a bit disjointed at times. The ending of the Marine level is a bit weak, the Predator ending is fairly predictable, and the Alien one is perversly satisfying :)

The whole of Max Payne is story driven. You uncover bits of the story as you are playing. With AvP2, the story isn't as strong but it does have that whole creepy thing going on. You can get quite imersed in the action to a point that the phone ringing will near enough give you a heart attack.

Why not buy Max from EB and play it for a while to see how you get on? If you don't enjoy it, take it back within 10 days and get a refund or change it for AvP2.

Good idea - I played the AvP2 demo and it scared the pants off me!! Esp. as the marine, running along....then your radar starts to blip, blip, blip...then RRAARA!! It leaps out at ya and you let rip, BUDDABUDDABUDDA and it dies, spewing green blood everywhere....

Can you tell I am impressed? :)

Don't be a cheapskate, it's due out on Friday. Surely you can wait another few days? :)

Besides, you could always buy AvP2, beat it in a couple of days, take it back to EB, swap it for Max Payne, beat that in a couple of days, and then swap it for RTCW :D
