Having looked at this set of benchmarks have just ordered a second 480 for my poor little black box under the desk. Neither of them are water-cooled so this is going to be interesting (hot and noisy) Got an EVGA 480 for £178.79 from Scan with a nice 3 year warranty and the pair should be faster than a 680 in most apps/games (and I don't have £400+ to spare on graphics at the mo ) There's only a few games I can't max out at 1920x1200 but I figure there'll be more as time goes on Also got some DDR3 cos I'm planning a nice upgrade once Ivy Bridge hits Am I mad?
You just need to hope that we dont get a summer this year! Smokin hot! In all honesty when i had sli 480s i could feel the heat radiating from the case on my face, no joke! My 680 now hums away as cool as a cucumber whilst churning out the frames.
I've just bought a 480 and seeing how hot one gets, you're very brave. What case and fans have you got? Also, I don't want to throw a spanner in the works, BUT, and it's a big j-lo but, you may have a stability issue with trying to run 2 cards from different vendors, even if they're both reference models. You may have to flash the bios of one card to the other.
It's an NZXT M59 with some Scythe Gentle Typhoon Fans, and yeah If I do run into issues I'll give it a go thanks for the hint As for heat, I had 2x GTX 280's in this setup before I won the Asus 480 and they coped so hopefully the 480's will get along marvellously ^_^ As for Teelzebub: Good Job
Good timing! A few of us have gone for the GTX 480 it seems as purchasing conditions are favourable! I'm going to have to convert my 400W PSU Vs GTX 480 thread in to the GTX 480 Appreciation Society... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=228961 We had a similar competition with GTX 460 that resulted in us pushing the limits of our cards right here... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=220423 Just installed a Gelid Icy Vision on my GTX 480 and getting below 60 degrees when running the Furmark stability test.
Was just gonna point madness to your thread blogins! Here's the cooler on Scan: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/geli...n-rev2-vga-cooler-for-high-end-ati-and-nvidia
Just be aware this is a triple slot cooler and is almost right on top the fourth slot. I did originally try it with my GTX 460 with poor results. In retrospect I believe the mounting pressure was a little off which is why it originally yielded poor results. Mounting it on the GTX 480 was a piece of cake in comparison and I'm feeding results in to the thread right now... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=228961&page=3
