*Sorry about the poor quality of photo's 1.3mp camera has a real hard time zooming in on something so small, hope you can see it ok (Should have maybe made images smaller, i will remember for next post, sorry !!!!)* okay, im "very" lost!! I figured i'd change the LED's in my belkin router to light up blue, which i thought would make a very nice effect with my new pre-moded case. Ok here's what i got, along with a couple of questions, ill show you the pictures so you can better understand...... *Angelfire.com likes to terminate my account after i post pictures on this website, sorry about the disapering act, but the people who have already answered have set me on the right foot, did some research about the form on led's and it looks a little hard to do for a guy whoise never touched a soldering iron, im going to stick with my idea at the bottom of the thread* I dont know if this is possible, and i have about 0% cicitry (spelling?!?) knowledge, but i guess a little research wouldnt help. If this isnt a good project for a 1st time modder tell me and ill gladly screw back in the 3 screws and put it back on the shelf. Im going to be asking for alot of help, which i hope is ok. I thought this would be a little easier, because what i have read is just putting a new LED bought from radioshack and solder that **** in. But this is something i never read about, little circuit lights (LOL IM F*N LOST) maybe this isnt a good first project?!?! Maybe i should stick to my other idea and just cut a window in the side of my old case with a dremel. . . Ive been looking through the forums for the whole weekend, my girlfriend tell's me i should marry the computer, so much reading and so much more to go. . . . . guess everyone starts somewhere???
no pics just big red x just try to explane in more detail what it is you dont understand ? also welcome to bit-tech
sorry about that, went to goto my webshell and it seem's angelfire shut down my first account. Pictures should work for a little bit, or at least i hope. Sorry about the poor pictures too, should be getting a new digi next week, or hopefully.
Hey! Welcome to the forums!!! Those LED's do look at touch fiddly. It'd be my advice to have a practise on something worthless with the iron for awhile before you hit them. It's not too difficult though, an LED (well, not the changing colour fancy ones anyway) only has 2 legs to solder. I'm also thinking, that if you don't get them in right, you'll more than likely just endup with no lights rather than breaking the whole unit. It's the decision every modder must take - "coolness vs. breaking everything" Oh, and I think all ladies complain about this kinda thing (or men - there are many female modders around)
dont know if it will work for you, but on my dvd drive, it had an amber smd led...desoldered it and soldered in a 5mm blue led... works perfectly
Yeah, SMD LEDs could be tough for your first soldering attempt. If you want to continue with some simpler mods for your router you could go with: 1) Paint your router to match your case. There are plenty of good painting guides out there. 2) Put a window in your router. This would require using a dremel and hot glue gun. Also, you might want to light this, but then we come back to slightly more complex modding because you would need to locate the power source and hack that to get power for the lighting. Otherwise, try and desolder the SMD leds and replace them with regular ones if they'll fit under the cover. Goodluck. Oh, and welcome to the forums!
Maybe your right on trying to start off on something to big, you expert moders have just got my hopes up to high. . . ill try something smaller, changing the red LED's to blue ones, here's a picture of the operation. *Everytime i upload images and post them on this website, angelfire.com likes to terminate my account, so just believe there is a optical mouse image here with the case open the the two LED's lighted up.* Ok now i got the basic idea on what to do, desolder and then solder new LED. Now my question is, which i never seen answers in over 100 pages that i seen in this forum, on how to de-solder things??? From watching a x-box mod movie i know how to solder (gonna pick one up for the first time tomorrow), heat up the pin with the solder iron and touch the pin with the solder, simple conecpt i guess (if stated corectly). . . . ill take a picture tomorrow, if i dont **** anything up.
Sorry about that huge picture, thought i resized the image but apparently it didnt work. Im going to go get that soldering iron when i wake up in the morning, i was checking out this one http://www.radioshack.com/product.a..._name=CTLG_011_009_007_001&product_id=64-2802 could someone give me some input as is to if this one is a good start into the soldering world??? Looking for some answer's when i first get up so i can go straight there after visiting the forum's. Thanks in advance!!!! (dad sends me case, i install it, check out xoxide.com where i got it from, saw a link to this website, been reading pages after pages in this forum, my girlfriend thinks im in love with the pc, and ive taken apart 3 things, got 4 little projects in my head, went out and bought a dremel, gonna get a soldering iron, wanna customize an older case i got. . . . . . WTF R U PEOPLE DOING TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! lol ) oh and to answer my previous question about desoldering. . . I think i found the answer, its another little tool right, because while at radioshack.com i typed solder and got desoldering items too, so it looks like its a store bought method, i thought there was some kind of silly **** you had to do, but looks like its easier then i thought. oh yea and btw, i hate all of you!!! You all are very coruptive!!!
Just thought i would add this, re upload your pics to www.uploadit.org then they shouldn't go missing every 2 seconds.
