OK so no ones tested the Hydor L35 I take it so lets get some opinions on the modified MCP 350 vs. it's big brother the 655. If you had the money to do it again from scratch knowing what you know now which one would you get? Does anyone have them both, or tried them both? I'm planning on picking one up this weekend for a 1/2" application and am still undecided.
Come on guys.. I know theres some serious water coolers on here. Did I phrase my question wrong? What's the problem, speak to me...
I prefer the DDC for my applications (8mm ID tubing and a buncha blocks, 1 rad and a reservoir/filltank). It's pretty quiet and there are many options for it like plexi tops and filltanks and dual tops (for running 2 in a loop). For your application, perhaps the D5 would suit your needs. It does have a rheostat so you can fine tune your flow to noise levles, which the DDC does not have. There are different version of the DDC out, like the Pro and Ultra, so they offer varying levels of power, but you'll need to add a rheostat to fien tune the flow.
I have both pumps. While the MCP655 worked just fine, it does have a high pitched whine that I found irritating. Changing the rheostat did not eliminate this. I now run a flow modded MCP355 (18w) using the Alphacool plexi top w/ the center inlet. The entire loop was converted to 3/8" (save for the line from rez to pump inlet which remained 1/2"). Temps did not change and the whine went away. If I were starting from scratch I'd skip the 655 in favor of the smaller/quieter 355 and run 3/8" tubing (stretched over 1/2" barbs) on all the blocks/rad.
For 3/8" (9mm) ID tubing get the DDC MCP350 PLUS. It's a compact pump, has a nice foot print, and if using the mod of 1/2" ID inlet, it can nearly rival the D5. For 1/2" (12mm) ID tubing get the D5 MCP655. With the POT settings, you can fine tune the flow to find your sweet spot in the cooling loop. Without knowing what the other componets are in the cooling loop, it's difficult to provide additional assistance.
Apogee water block/ Dual 120 heater core/ 5.25 res/ homemade hiflow gpu block/ homemade hiflow HD cooler (cools 3 HD's) and possibly may add a northbridge cooler if needed later. You think the modded MCP 350 can handle all of that or should I take the noise of the 655?
Get the 18W version of the Laing DDC-plus 1 pump and it will go down really nicely with an Alphacool plexi top. It will also cope with all of your kit no problems
