How did I miss this so far?!?

A 66% board with hot-swappable switches, leds, carbon fibre plate and an Fn key under the space bar... GIMME!

I dont understand why people want to change switches and want switch swap plates etc.

    Just buy more keyboards :D

Yep its a bit strange, how often does your switch preference change? Someone new to mechanical keyboards might want to try different ones, but those probably aren't the people willing to drop $300 on a keyboard in the first place.

I find there's something to like about all switches. Also, getting a board with switch opening notches means I can use custom springs, vintage black sliders etc without desoldering. I imagine it seems odd to Margo because he can melt solder with a single glance from 20 paces :p

Anybody know of a decent mechanical keyboard, preferably red switches though wouldn't mind trying blue, would be used almost entirely for mmo gaming not worried about size though price is the major issue, I want to get into mechanical keyboard though don't really know where to start.

I own 4 boards with MX Clears right now, 5 if you count the numpad. :D

For me it wouldn't really be the hot-swapping but I just really like the layout for a work board. And there is something intriguing about having a CF plate. ;)
No cash to drop on something like this just yet though.

Call me mad, but blues are my favourite at the minute. The click epitomises everything I believe a mechanical keyboard should stand for.

But I have love for all MX variants :)

In theory blues sound perfect for mmo gaming as the click while satisfying I imagine would provide full confidence a spell/attack has been initiated.

I suspect that was Razer's logic with the BlackWidow. Considering a huge part of their customer base are probably MMO players it was probably not quite as bad a decision as a lot of people thought it was at the time.

I can see both sides of the argument - the cutouts do mean that the switch tops are more likely to come off when swapping keycaps but I think they're invaluable whilst you're sorting out preferences - for example with my Poker I went from clears (which I found a little heavy) to 62g ergo-clears (which weren't quite heavy enough to avoid some sticking issues even lubed) to 65g ergo-clears (which are amazing btw) all without having to desolder. I'm not going to be changing it any more though so the cutouts are now redundant :)

I do like clicky boards (buckling spring > * btw) but I find blues to just be a little too light - greens and blears are nice though :thumb:

Your comment prompted a search for the Razer, I then veered off and found what I think may be my first mechinal keyboard, it's affordable, a brand that carries weight and reviewed very well http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-013-CH&tool=3

    Simple, elegant, ello sexeh!

After 6 years of an awful Acer laptop keyboard though I think a dell dome board would make me happy :D

Hmmm, are greens and clears higher g clickys then?

The G80-3000 is one of the original and best mechs, so it'll serve you well. Quite flimsy though, so no rage-quitting allowed.

Greens are supposed to be used as the spacebar switch on blue boards, but many people like the additional weight (80g vs 50g for the blue) as it reminds them of the more vintage clicky keyboards from IBM.

Clears don't click, but are heavier than blues and have a very pronounced tactile bump. If you master the art of typing on clears you will never bottom out the keys, which can actually save fatigue on your fingers versus some of the lighter switches.

That is very good to hear, also I don't rage unless I get huge lag spikes in the last 10 seconds of an intense no mistake boss fight, considering the setup I'm building that is very unlikely to happen again and if it does I won't be at the crap out a it like I may have an annoying lappy board :D

Aaah, the weight shouldn't be a problem as I'm used to the lappy board that has near zero weight, also I might have a good chance at not bottoming out as the board is like a mm give, other than that its my hudl.

Only thing that'll concern me is over compensating in force to never miss a key due to the extended distance while I'm learning to touch type on the new layout.
