so i'm trying to get a 60% board with plate mounted clears and backlight that i can stick in a metal case. ideally the backlight would be white, but if it's changeable that'd be fine.

without wanting to wait ages, i'm thinking my best bet may be trying to find a poker2, a bag of clears, and white LEDs if necesary. would that work, and does anyone have any better suggestions?

I'd be okay with TKL too, but i can't imagine that's going to be any easier to source all the bits for.

Massdrop just finished a drop for Poker IIs with clears and white backlighting, might be worth waiting to see if either a) they have any left over or b) picking one up second hand.

I personally would rather wait a little while longer than desolder a whole boards worth of LEDs :D.

Plate mounted clears are awesome though, my daily driver uses them, by far my favourite switch.

those dicks, i'ver been trawling their poker 2 listings on and off for ages but got bored of them only ever seeming to have the same switches (red, blue, black/brown) and coloured backlighting, and them refusing to put stuff like that in their listing titles; like i want to have to read every keyboard listing just to check switch type. Even now trawling through previous listings i can't find the one you're referring to.

I've been trying to find this on and off for at least a year, but the desire of whoever is manufacturing these things to only do so in limited numbers in order to maintain demand and a degree of price inflation is sickening. Almost as bad as the queue of people lining up to throw money at them to thank them for doing so. That's why i'm now willing to put my (crap) soldering skills to use to get what i want, as no one's willing to produce it in sufficent quantities for me to buy it :p

i've ummed and ahhed over a suitably outfitted [ctrl]alt60 but haven't yet justified the $400 to myself and the case doesn't fit in with what i've got in mind (it's damn nice, but i'm looking for something that'll sit flat against a surface and preferably add a bit/lot of weight.

How mental is mechanical keyboard mania? A chap is about to make a 2 hour round trip to my house to buy...

4 Cherry MX green switches. Madness I tells ya!

see, there's one on ebay, just what i'm after, but it works out as $299.94 including shipping and duty and i just don't see a poker being a £200 keyboard.

i wouldn't make a two hour round trip to get to work, let alone for four switches!

This is the one, looks like the drop closed a while ago as they're looking to fulfil orders in December which is either a good thing as they will be flooding the market as people realise they don't like clears or a bad thing because it will be months until the next drop...

Still, the DIY route is waaay more satisfying and you'll still end up with the same thing :D Also, Poker isn't worth £200 by a long way IMO, that's verging on entry level custom price.

And yeah, 2 hours for 4 switches is nuts, it's the difference between like £1 to send them first class or £20 in petrol to drive it...dude must really like greens :D

If you get a poker for 70-80 then mod it up to about 200 in value, that's okay, as it becomes a custom :D

Yea 200 for a Poker is silly. When I have them in, I sell them for 80 or 85.

Plus, if you buy from Massdrop, be prepared to wait anywhere from 2 months for it to be processed.

Cheers both, I'll see what I can find with clears.

The Cherry board looks good, though I'm not really worried about looks. In a sea of low-res 17" monitors and crappy desktop units, my team already stands out with our top-spec laptops, 22" 1080p monitors and monitor stands/risers. As long as it doesn't look like a Logitech G19 and doesn't have garish backlighting I shouldn't attract too many unwanted questions about "unauthorised hardware" :).

Yeah I got millions of those guys, but I cant get the pins and the plastic shroud inside a switch and full close the switch properly, so I just break the pins out of the plastic and use those :)

Nice keyboard JaccoW! Nice inserts :)

I like the idea of the cyan kit but not feng running it - that's really why I cancelled my order... Quite tempted by this commodore set - I'll have to see how my finances are post xmas. Apologies if you've already covered this but are the alphas more similar in colour to the mods on my pic here

and then the mods the colour of the alphas?
