A little advice please - My Steelseries Apex 7 is starting to fail a bit - lovely keyboard but I'm not that fussed about brand loyalty. The D button is sticking and F3 LED have dimmed. What should I replace it with or shall i go about taking it apart? I like the oled display for cpu and gfx temps but not a deal breaker. Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Can anyone let me know why I should be looking at Ducky or similar? That Yellow one in marketplace looked nice!

been putting off building my ergodox for far too long every time i try to build some thing always comes up now a need for a keyboard has come up and and i am going to build it.

i got the first kits massdrops did with cherry red keys amd it has been in storage since. i remember massdrop had a pic by pic guide but it is no longer there https://www.ergodox.io/ has a guide of sorts which i presume should be what i follow.

where i am lost is on key caps. where is the best places to get them?

could i use a usb-c connector instead of micro usb?

and i kinda think i know the answer to this but is it possible to have backlit keys?

I've only bought switches from them, but heartily recommend https://splitkb.com/

The stratus keycap set they have says it's compatible with ergodox, but you might have to double check the specific board. Thomas could probably confirm if you ask on their Discord. And you'd probably get more answers to the rest of your questions given it's a split board specific community.

I believe you have the wrong thread, this is clearly a weapon for inflicting blunt force trauma - it even has a handle to help swing it.

well i finally got round to building the ergodox i got what i think almost 10yrs ago from mass drop paper work said 2013....

anyways my trusty auoye 968 sold ring station smd/heatgun stopped working so had to use the soldering iron and some very dry soldering paste which left nasty flux residue which defeated me spent most of today with isopropyl alchol and tooth brush trying to clean it off.

caps i got off amazon primeday deal 4.99 not ideal set but cant complain tho some keys like shift, control, esc etc arnt the right size

when i plugged it in it spazzed out lefthand had shorts on the under side and seems like the paste ran down the ic legs trough the other side and shorting the legs i got scarred thought it might have been haunted

    [IMG] [IMG]

as for layout i settled on this tho the 3 led lights i can not seem to get working
    [IMG] [IMG]

and i think the trrs cable is dodgy after some digging its not hotswapable/removable on og egodox removing while usb cable is plugged in ruins it. which is what has happened to me

So, a little bit embarrassing here... it appears typing exclusively on laptop and super-slim desktop keyboards (for perhaps 20 years... the last time I wasn't, was when I had one of these), I am unable to type accurately on anything else. I'm frequently catching neighbouring keys on my MX Mechanical on the down-press and its getting a little irritating.

Any pro-tips other than "keep going, git gud"?

Not really - it's largely a matter of muscle memory is all, especially if you are touch-typing rather than looking at your fingers, and it could also be a resistance thing as mech boards make your fingers work harder. Shouldn't take long to develop proficiency with a standard keyboard layout.

Could try a low profile mech board? Or different kepcap profiles, XDA or DSA have a much flatter profile and are shorter, bringing them closer to what you're used to.
