Why do they charge so much for what look likes a cheap average keyboard ?

 

The left hand side will as will the enter but not the right shift or space bar.

Also the CTRL row modifiers are 1.5 not 1.25, you can get them from WASD too

So, I just made my way through two piss easy GCSEs and have 2 more to go for this year. I'll be buying plenty of nice keycaps as a treat next week!

Which one are you talking about?
'Cheap average' mechanical keyboards start at $50 and go all the way up to $500 for certain models like a HHKB.
An 'average' board would cost around $100 but would last you a lifetime.
Backlight (1 led per key @ $0.10 each) + keycaps from more wearproof material like PBT, POM or injection moulded ABS (aka doubleshots) cost at least $40 for a whole set retail and all add up to the price of a keyboard.

So is it expensive? Yes.
Is it more reasonable than buying a $400 graphics card over a $150 card while it essentially does the same but at a faster rate?
Maybe not, but you can have a lot more fun and satisfaction from it while at the same time serving you for a longer period of time.

Please please help me understand.....

I am constantly trying to improve my pc especially regarding quietness, I recently purchased a CM 690II and 3 140mm fans and my pc is very quiet.

I have a G15 keyboard which to be honest works fine and yet I fInd people trying to convince that their mechanical keyboards are 200+% better than my present keyboard.

I struggle to understand this as my present keyboard works fine, I press A i get A on the screen etc.

How can a mechanical keyboard be that much better, how do you quantify this?

P.S. I utterly hate how clicky these things sound, I know this is an entirely personal thing but it really does annoy the crap out of me.

As for being able to replace indivdual keys etc, I know where my WASD are why do I need them highlighted.

Really not trying to piss people off just trying to understand.
