I'm feeling both of your rigs too ;)

Oh... er... keyboards and... er... keycaps and stuff :worried:

Got to keep things on topic.

Ahh shirty I wanna rep that (LMAO) but it isn't letting me yet

I should have a Filco MJ2 browns to do a direct same switch comparison with my CM Storm Quickfire soon enough. Hopefully within a week or two! I've compared the two but with different switches before. This should be more revealing of intricate typing differences

I have a noob question - If I was to get a CM Rapid mech keyboard, would i still be able to customise the keycaps?

Quite the party of similar machines here!

Even have a P67A GD53 lurking in the closet to match even better. :D

Yes bdigital, but it all depends on what you want to do with it though as there are less full set ISO options than ANSI for aftermarket, especially if you wanted certain language layout on the keys.

Well first off, I just want a decent mech keyboard.

But eventually, I would like to strip it down and paint the case/board myself, and choose the colour scheme of the keys myself.

The CM looked like a decent base to start with, but I have no idea how complex these things are once you start to pull them apart!

    Not very complex at all!

    Case
    PCB
    USB Controller
    Key caps

    Simple!

Go ANSI if you can for full customisation options!

Highly rate red switches. Having only typed on blues before on my old board a few years ago.

Been typing on my new keycool 87 (thanks hamza) since it arrived a few hours ago. It sounds really nice! And typing on reds I find a really pleasurable experience.

I dont really find them as light as I have read about. I mean sure they are quite light, but not so much that I get mis-presses or accidentals.

edit: How do I type a pound sign on a tkl ansi keyboard as there is no numpad to do asci codes on?

    Glad you like it!

The way I type £, is to tell Windows that the keyboard is UK layout.

This way the symbols for #, @, " and |\ don't match, but you can still do SHIFT+' for @ and SHIFT+3 for £.

There are better ways though :)

    Download the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator and do the following;

    2. Tick the shift box on the left then click on the # button which opens up a VK_3 Shft box
    3. Open character map and select the £ sign and copy. Paste this over the # in the VK_3 box and click OK
    4. Select project then build DLL and Setup Package and complete that process.
    5. Once saved then open the folder and run setup.
    6. After this has been installed you will then be able to add another keyboard in control panel, which in my case was US-custom, and make it the default.
Now shift+3 gives me the £ sign.
There are other keystoke methods for getting the £ sign but this method gave me what I wanted. I guess this could be used for any key changes you want.
