What's the cheapest half decent mech keyboard? I wouldn't mind one for the family rig but reluctant to spend a fortune, would prefer with a num pad

Does it need to be UK layout? What switches do you want?

The Mionix I have uses blacks which I like, I've only tried reds or blacks.

UK layout would be handy, yes

I've never used a mechanical keyboard before, but I believeI may have tracked down an old one from my old Tiny PC.
After some research, I believe it's a Chicony KB-9805, though when I plug it in, the keys don't respond - though the caps/numlock buttons flash once.
Are there any drivers that will work with this?

Have you restarted the machine with the keyboard plugged in?

We are organising a London meet up over at DT, it looks likely to be one of the next few Sundays, who else fancies it? It will be a central London location in a pub for some food, beer and keyboards!

    Works a charm!
Now, for my next question. How do I properly go about cleaning the keyboard? I understand I'll need to remove the keys to thoroughly clean it, but how do I properly go about doing that? Complete noob at keyboards.

Can I join your club now?

EDIT: So I found a way to pry them off easily. Now how do I safely clean it?

How dirty is it? If it is just general detritus then I would use compressed air or a duster and a good firm shake upside down! If it is pretty damn dirty then I would use a slightly damp cloth and some elbow grease.

To clean the caps you can put them in a bowl with a denture tablet for half an hour or so and then a quick scrub with a toothbrush.

    Thanks for the help!
I don't have any denture tablets on hand though, are there any alternatives?

This might actually not be a great idea, it worked for me but it might damage some caps?

Glad I could help facilitate this! Really looking forward to getting to grips with my first mech keyboard. Just hoping black was the right choice for me. Was torn between blacks and reds but as I'm a heavy handed oaf, and Kidmod was offering a very reasonable price I figured I'd have a stab at it.

I loved blacks and I'll be getting another board with them! They're very smooth but have a nice resistance for the heavier handed of us! :thumb:
