I know that UK ISO is a pain, but as long as I will live here I really would like to have UK layout:)
If at least I could get beige mods, then I would try to get UK main caps (like @,#,|\,£) in white...

Trouble is I don't think CM, Ducky or Das produce a keyboard with a Mac UK layout. I'm using a rMBP with such a layout and I'd really prefer my external Kb to match layout wise. I could use one with the symbols in the wrong place but it just wouldn't feel right.

And as to getting a KB and replacing some keycaps, yes that sounds like a good idea but TBH I don't know where to start.

I might just get a matias and put up with the supposedly loud noise, or swap back to the Apple KB when the hour gets late and the little ones are tucked up. I think the matias is an ugly keyboard, but hey.

Unless someone can point me in the direction of a cherry based alternative (Probably brown switches) and a source of keycaps that will replicate a Mac UK layout and not wind me up with mismatching keycaps every time I sit down.

Matias are bringing out the quiet pro in a mac layout aren't they? I thought they are going to be quieter. I think the Matias keyboards are real lookers! High up on my list of keyboards to purchase over the next few months.

Strange one, I currently have a friend who is in Japan for 3weeks with work.

Would he be able to get a HHKB for cheaper over there and bing it back for me? If it is a substantial amount cheaper I'll get one.

Does anyone know a Japanese site or shop or anything that he would be able to get it from?

Margon, shouldn't you change your signature now, I thought you had your oni?

There is a set of Ducky PBT caps on my Mother's desk, need to go collect those mofo's after work.

I am trying to keep my Filco pretty plain looking, but will be looking to replace the entire bottom row (inc arrows) with something a bit jazzy.

Right you are! Would be interested to see those caps when you get them in your possession - especially how thick they are!

phinix, if you are going to settle for lasered caps, might as well settle for Cherry lasered caps at the least. You can get something like this, and finding the rest of the missing/incompatible keys in matching pbt laser from a US set or whatever won't be anywhere near hard like doubleshots. Cherry lasered PBT is still so much nicer quality than WASD, and cheaper. I didn't spend much time looking though, so there might be a better deal.

GMK is a keycap manufacturer, who bought all the doubleshots equipment from Cherry so thier caps are identical to the old Cherry doubleshots. Shooting for starting buy for full sets in the spring sometime. I don't have more specific time frame yet though.
You can see the interest check here.

Japanese Amazon! HHKB boards are definitely cheaper over there as you can skip the import duty.

Don't you have to open it so that technically it's not a new product when he brings it back through customs - otherwise it's 'new' and you could still be stung for import tax etc

The best place I could think of off the top of my head in Japan for buying it inside a store would be the LaOX Personal Computer Shop, it's located in Akihabara, Tokyo. If your friend does go there to look for a keyboard, get him to go to the upper floors (4 upwards) as all the Duty Free stuff is up there... providing they haven't changed the layout of the store since I was there.

Here's the address of the store if your friend needs it: 1-2-9 Soto-kanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
They open from 10am to 9pm.

Akihabara is basically electronics central in Tokyo, there should be plenty of other shops for your friend to look in that area.

As for whether it'll be worth it in terms of price, I'd say probably because big stores are swarming with mechanicals so they're a bit cheaper there. I can't say for sure though as I haven't been there since 2011.
Last time I was there Topre Realforce boards were roughly 17,000 - 22,000 yen.

Just popped on my PBT caps, I much prefer the feel to ABS. The Ducky caps aren't much thicker than the Filco ABS but they feel a bit more solid.

The board overall looks much better as the PBT's "greyness" and texture is closer to that of the case.

Sorry for the quality, it is terrible lighting in here and I couldn't be bothered to find a tripod so it isn't sharp, the exposure is funny and the white balance is off. Haha.

The PBT cap is on the left, it is quite difficult to tell from the picture but overall it seems a bit thicker, or at least feels it. On some of the Filco keys the back edge seems thinner than the rest, this doesn't seem to be the case on Duckys.

17K yen is like £115 odd? If so, That's smart!

I'll have a word with him, thanks again all for the help.

Don't forget about extra keycaps. They have WAY more colors and stuff available in Japan for Topre that isnt export.

Anyone know of any similar information but for Singapore? Will be there in August and would hate to miss out on the chance of a bargain!
