If I had funds I'd buy it, but I guess everyone's skint.

I have a spare blue you can have and if you use the blue spring with the black slider you'll have created yourself a red (they feel exactly the same - I can assure you). I might have a brown kicking around but maybe not - I'll check when I get home

That would be awesome if you do. Browns aren't my top priority for testing as I already have a brown board.

I know I am not going to get close to the feel of typing by just changing one switch and feeling the force so in such a closed environment I am not sure if it being plate or PCB mounted is going to make any appreciable difference. I am not sure it will even be a worthwhile exercise to be honest, but I am sure I can make a decent enough judgement from it.

I don't suppose you can buy stems on their own, from anywhere?

I'd like to try browns with black springs.

Not as far as I know but you can take the switches are cheap(ish) and you can take them apart fairly easily. Sounds like you're talking about clears by the way (stiffer springs and a more pronounced bump but not clicky like blues)

No probs - I'll stick a blue switch in with your techkeys order :D

I thought clears had stiffer springs, and I read something (possibly on the DT wiki) about the springs stiffening beyond the actuation point?

Cheapest I've seen switches was about 80p (based on 100+) for reds, but browns were more expensive and never seem to be in stock - can't remember the site, but I think I have a link at home.

Qwerkeys sells individual switches for 80p (and has browns in stock) - http://www.qwerkeys.co.uk/collections/cherry-switches

Clear switches do have a stiffer spring past the point of actuation however to me this feels like it stops you from bottoming out rather than making it harder to actuate the switch

They are quite hard to come by - 7bit sells switches on Deskthority however is only taking preorders for September... I might have a spare lying around but not lots... Maybe not come to think of it...

Edit: Scratch that - he does have stock at the minute - here

Thanks George, I'm not ready yet but I'll take the chance that he'll have some stock near the end of the month.

Are you just after one switch to try or after lots for a project?

I'd like to try one in my work board, but I'm willing to take the plunge (eventually) on around 40, from that 7bit chap. Incidentally, how long do you have to be a member before buying?

You don't on DT - the order system is a little strange with him but I got my head round it (evenually!) What is your work board?

    It's a Steelseries 6G v2

I quite like the blacks on it, but the LEDs on my MK-85 prevent me from experimenting on that board, even though I'd like to swap out the reds for something a little heavier; so my work board will be the test bench.

Either way you're talking about desoldering right? (As both are plate mounted?) - I guess that the leds need twice as much desoldering though...

Y'see, I don't know enough about this stuff yet!

I thought you could pop open the housing and change the innards as long as the switch didn't have an LED mounted through it. Thanks George, you've probably saved me some pain - my soldering skills are up to the task, but I haven't the time for that at the moment.
