I was tempted to order a second ergodox, this times with the standard case and clears so I could experiment with switches -- but I've just discovered the ErgoGP (nor renamed nexus apparently) over at GH which seems to be an improved design (also uses Bluetooth which I'm not a fan of, but will apparently offer a number of different designs including 70% boards with thumb clusters too) which will be kickstarted in the near future.

How hard is it to replace the stems/springs on an ergodox once built? I'm not really sure if the "plate" which holds the swiches is fitted above or below the switches -- apparently you can't take the top off a plate-mounted switch which suggests the plate is above the switch, but since the ergodox is built in layers could you just remove the top layer and the plate to swap the stems/springs without having to desolder the switches?

In any case I'll probably order a few taster switches so I can decide what to do with my Ergodox, or possibly a full set of clears so I can rebuild the whole board for testing.

Thanks for that. :) I'd much prefer something in the UK though, as hers is pretty much on the brink of death. I've been lending her my Poker for quite a while which kind of sucks now I'm down to one board. :/

gl finding a UK layout kb in that price range but honestly US set to US International is really quite good as you can type any language with all the special chars. just have to remember that @ is above 2 and the pound sign keycombo.

Wait isn't the Poker US Layout?......

I'm not bothered about it not being an ISO board, I just need one that's in the UK now for the sake of shipping. :)

I only use ANSI myself and much prefer it.

Why does it have to be mechanical? A decent Logitech board is still very good.

Just blame my own addiction. :D She's still working quite a bit so it might as well be something that can last easily.

Alrighty! Might as well pop down to Scan today then and get it done. Cheers.:)
Any recommendations? Wireless would be better for her but anything's fine.

I am very envious of your proximity to Scan. On the other hand I do quite like having money :hehe:

On a keyboard related note, it seems that TJ at GH is shipping out CCnG round 2. Which I thought I was excited about, but now I am not actually sure if I even like it. So there is a possibility I will be selling my set soon after it arrives.

Get a TKL Cherry ML board.

They're like rubber domes but much much better feeling.

Also Kid, I'm dead serious, if I pick up a Model M at a thrift store. I'll PM you and I'll clean it up and send it your way.

65g clears are the closest thing to topre on mx. Clears at stock I think are awesome, though they are quite fatigueing. Ergo clears - I haven't experienced any issues with sticky switches, though I have lubed my switches on my ergo clear board and I did that when I was building the switches so I can't comment on unlubed. The bump is massive, the spring is good and different to most mx springs. Clears and it's derivatives are my favourite ones.

Cherry MX switches all use the same housing (except lock, which has a different top but the same bottom) which have four clips, one at the top and bottom of each side (when looking down on a switch) a few seconds with a small flat head screwdriver or two (two and a finger-nail personally) and you're in. Traditional plates are just a square and once the switch is in, it's in and that's it short of de-soldering. The ErgoDox plate is designed with switch modification in mind the four small rectangular additions to a square along the edges allow the top to be unclipped and springs/sliders swapped without the need for soldering. I haven't experimented with mine yet, if I remember then I'll give it a try this evening, but it shouldn't be any sort of problem.

Hi mateys. I'm desperatly trying to find a file / drawing with exact mesurment of cutout for plate mounted Cherry Mx and plate mounted Costar stabilizers. I found several JPG files, but I'd like to have it laser / water cutted. I'm looking at standard sized keycaps with a layout similar to the HHKB

I'd really be grateful for you help.

    That'd be awesome, thanks!

But in the meantime, I just won a mint condition Model F-122 for £5.50. I'm pretty overjoyed with that one. And so the IBM collection begins...
