Ah right - I couldn't be arsed wading through a website in Korean last night lol... I'll take a look later. I like the layout of the board (1800) but the price puts me off as, when they come up, a 'proper' G80-1800 is like half the cost that they will be...

    Cheers, man.

Is the packaging Massdrop branded? If so, I assume they are very likely to attract customs charges.

I don't think it is. The main thing with Customs is that massdrop will always announce the full value of the item.

Sorry to start a random new topic in the middle of a discussion, but does anyone have any info whatsoever on the Corsair K70 being released in the UK in black with red backlight and blues? I'm desperate to pre-order one, but it's only available at CCL in silver with a blue backlight.

I'd also be interested in knowing if the LEDs under the keys are SMD or through-hole, because I would actually like a silver one with white backlight to match my planned new desk setup. The only reason I want the black with red backlight is for the red backlight, but if I could have white instead by swapping LEDs, I would do it. If push comes to shove, the silver body won't be a big deal either, I could buy a black one with reds, do a case swap and sell on the board with Reds and a silver body.

No absolute knowledge about the LEDs but I'd put money on them being through hole (and therefore through the switches themselves) unless they've designed custom places on a custom pcb

Edit: And this whole thread is basically just a chat with questions mid-topic!

Edit 2: This picture shows that they're where they usually should be to be through hole :thumb: (even though the switches are actually rotated 180 degrees from usual)

Would be easy enough to swap LEDs - I can do it for you if you not got the time of whatever. The only problem with switching to red LEDs is they require a lot less juice than blue ones, so the resistors would like have to be changed as well, and they are normally SMD's so it's possible but a lot of hoo har, though changing the LEDs to white would probably be just swapping the LEDs.

I would put money on them being through hole LEDs as SMD LEDs don't work with plates as they are too low etc. plus, the cherry switch is designed with LEDs in mind, so it's often easier to design a board around that fact.

The whole thing being there's no need to make it sticky; with Kid on board, it's practically an automatically self-bumping topic...

The 1800 alike groupbuy looks nice, but I think I will just get a PCB only. The case price really isn't too bad considering Poker cases have cost that much. I do agree though, I don't understand why they didn't only half drill into the top so the bolts could tap in from the bottom and be much prettier. I've wished for a winkeyless 1800 with 6KRO+ for so long.
If you didn't already have an 1800, getting a G81 should be cheap enough and gives you casebody and keycaps.

Thanks, I think my best bet is probably to pre-order a silver bodied, blue switched K70 with blue backlighting and mod the LEDs to white myself, then if I'm really not digging the silver, buy any variant with a black case at a later stage, do that swap and sell on the spare Frankenstein board.

I wouldn't go to any bother changing blue backlighting to red when they're probably going to release one with a black case/red backlight/blue switches eventually, so I'd be going with the blue to white lighting change purely because that's the only one I can get any time soon with blue switches. I just don't want a keyboard with a blue backlight. I had enough of blue illumination with my first custom rig (main rig between 2004-2008 and still lives, albeit in a slightly more modern form) to do me a lifetime ;)

    [edit]

Bought another Choc Mini today. Couldn't resist :worried: Any suggestions for nice custom keycaps? I have yet to install a doubleshot on anything :(

Can't go wrong with a nice set of doubleshots or PBT dyesubs (I do now see how much better PBT is with this HHKB! :D)

Choc mini is a hard one to get a complete set of caps for - due to the odd profile for some of the caps - though what you can do is just use caps from the numpad down the right hand column

I don't think PBT is better, I think it's different! I can't tell too much difference with thin pbt caps like those on the hhkb, but thick imsto's are a league of their own, my favourite cap out there.

    Indeed. They're quite awesome.

And apart from the spacebar, a full mix of cherry sets will fir the choc mini easily, bearing in mind we still get a lot of sets with 1.5x mods. :)

There's a good guide here as to what keycaps on there are 'standard' and which aren't.

Edit: Just realised I could link to the exact picture - yellow is available (ish), red not so much...

My Filco keys on the home board are starting to get a bit shiny, what should I be replacing it with? Some hard-wearing blank ISO keys would be great, although I'm tempted just to get a whole new board and replace my Q-pad, as the keys are a ballache to get right...

And there's the quandry! If I replace a board, what would I go for? TKL? Backlit? Another Filco? Got to be browns really I suppose, unless Topre. Argh! Help me chaps.

if Ivan doesn't advise you where you could get some nice cherry doubleshots for a reasonable price I'm sure someone either has some spare or can point you to a suitable groupbuy or source.

What size filco is it, and is it ISO or ANSI?
