Sweet, any chance you could grab a photo looking along the keys to show if there is any height difference (if any)?

Don't want to waste the money when the keys on this are so damn beautiful!!

FML I'm a n00b -.- cheers man, so you reckon I would be alright with the keys from WASD then?

    Just look at this fantasticness:

There is a height difference but it's sufficiently tiny so as to be unnoticeable. What will be more noticeable is the coating on the keys. Seeing as you have the POM caps on your Noppo, you should be fine.

    Go for the WASD!

Edit: the S key on those photos wasn't pressed down fully onto the board! I just pressed it now and it went down further, so don't worry it isn't that high :p

Noppoo has same profile as Cherry. For you Noppoo owners you might buy your keys from qwerkeys instead, as they also offer Cherry profile. They offer blanks and will offer custom engraved and infilled keys soon, so that means colored legends. Bonus for most of you is they are also UK based.
Different profile keys is something that I can't tolerate. It feels awful in my opinion and is very noticeable to me in the main typing area.

Hmm, I'll take a set of the number pad keys and the number row, both blank in white. :)
Send me a PM about payment.

Oh wow! I had no idea Noppoo was the same profile as Cherry... that makes things really interesting actually.

Checking out qwerkeys - may well be no need to order from WASD for you guys

edit: doesn't seem to exist yet

Hello all - first post in this thread! I'm considering the switch over to a mechanical keyboard and wanted some advice and suggestions as to a board. It'd be for gaming and some typing - not essay length typing mind. I'll try to split this up into separate questions:

One of my main reasons is that it bugs me when I press a key on my current keyboard it feels like nothing happens initially so you apply more pressure, still nothing and then it just jerks and bottoms out (Cyborg V5 if it makes any difference) - I'm not sure if that description really describes it correctly - is this because it's a rubber dome keyboard?

Having read around this thread I feel like I understand the different switch types - I think I'm trying to decide between reds or browns. I like the sound of browns but somewhere I read that their action is similar to what I described above as disliking (the pressing and getting nowhere thing). This makes me think I'd like a linear switch (unless what I've described above it only because this is a rubber dome) - am I right in thinking browns are like this?

Next - TKL - I'm quite used to use the numberpad but it won't affect my choice too much (if the model I like is only TKL then I'll buy something like this.) If it was a choice, for example, between a TKL filco or one with the numberpad I'd probably go for the one with.

Finally - I've gotten quite used to having a backlit keyboard but I can see that there aren't many mechanical backlit keyboards. If I was to get one it'd have to be red leds as that's my "theme" - unsure as to what to go for really - I'd prefer one with backlighting but boards like the CM Storm Trigger are only available in this country with Black switches.

Something that had caught my eye was a Noppoo pro this, however I don't like the fact that the shift symbols are next to the regular symbols rather than above them. Also the Ducky Shine (this) looks awesome, however I've not heard of that website and it's branded overclock.net.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :thumb:

Ducky Shine is considered the best backlight board available by most. There is other source besides OC, which is only difference they had their logo added to the spacebar.
Sounds like you actually would prefer a tactile switch. These switch (brown, blue, clear) have a bump in the center on the actuation point. It let you know you pressed the key before bottom out. Linear switch also has the actuation point half way, but there is nothing to let you know you pressed the key feel wise (well there is increasing force, but it is subtle), and you are more likely to bottom them.

In answer to this, yes that is because you are using a rubber dome keyboard, and no MX Browns are not like that at all, you can feel the bump and know exactly when a key has been pressed. In addition, brown keys have the bump and actuation point right at the top of the keypress action.

I would recommend you try MX Browns :)

With linear you have no idea when the keypress will register unless you have developed a sense for it - there's no physical indication.

And yeah the Ducky Shining is a great choice for backlit, but get it from here without OCnet branding: http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/category/ducky/catId=3993006

Unfortunately no red led version in stock though, and it's US layout - easy to adjust to but thought I'd mention it :)

This would have fitted in better on the last page but my more frequently used keys will be at a higher height then anything else, that's why I'm just getting the standard WASD caps. :) So I'm having orange engraved letters, red arrows, enter and backspace keys, and that red esc key with the man on it. :D
So Longweight, no other caps will fit the noppoo spacebar without modding?

And Hamza, I'll post the product codes of that I want in about half an hour, and then could you PM me about payment to you please? :)

OK, you three and Longweight are on the list currently if you still want stuff!

Its probably best if you PM me either product codes, or the exact customizations you want so I can make them at WASD. I'll confirm the exact designs/colours/stuff with a screenshot and then we can sort out payment as required.

Hope everyone is OK with PayPal gift payment or bank transfer - of course PayPal fees can be covered by you if you are so inclined :)

    Thanks for the replies :thumb:

I'm glad that's the case - my initial thoughts had been browns and they seem to be easier to come by than reds :D

On the subject of trying keyboards - anyone know of anywhere you can try the different key types before buying? I can't think of anywhere that would stock these...

Does the red led version exist? If it does I'll keep an eye out for it but if not I'll have to keep searching... I'm not fussed either way regarding US layout - if I could get UK then great but I'd rather have a good quality red backlit keyboard with browns with a US layout than sacrifice one of those things to get a UK layout.

    Cheers again

The problem in the UK is just that! You can't find anywhere to try the stuff out. The next best option is to buy it used or new, and sell it on after trying.

That's what most of us here are doing, many of our boards have passed hands between us over time :)

I think there is a red backlit Ducky Shining, a quick Google search should tell you the answer to that. Not sure myself.

Yes Shine comes in red, white, green, blue, purple, pink... if you have a hard time finding red in stock in browns, try to find white and use a red alcohol marker on the underside of the keycaps. This is actually a really smart option, as you can clean off the color and change it anytime if so inclined.

Does the end result look as good as the original red/where can you find alcohol markers?

I haven't seen someone do red, but there was someone who did a blue and green color on thier white led qpad sometime ago. They posted the end result on GH, but I am too lazy to find the thread right now. You might find those marker in hobby shop, or order from art supply store online maybe. Prismacolor is a pretty common brand I think, I'm sure there is others.

Longweight, have your zinc keys arrived yet? I can't wait to see them with the orange! :)

So yes, I'm VERY, VERY excited for thursday, miss half an hour of school, and if my hospital results turn out how I want them, I'm treating myself to my very first mechanical board! And I'm also treating myself to your engraved orange keys George! :D
