    Tiny spacebar?

    My Japanese G80-3600 has a 2.75...
It's too bad Filco didn't use a 2.75 spacebar and make some smarter choices about the bottom row arrangement on the Minila.

I'm confused but quite intrigued... What are those 3 caps below the spacebar? Mouse buttons?

Lol - now that is a small spacebar! I was tempted by the R5 kit for some replacements but it would appear that the 3x spacebar for that buy isn't stabilised whilst this is - I think any key more than about 2x unstabilised is dreadful so I can't imagine what that'd be like

Why do I keep reading that as teen sex yoda? Yes the 3 keys under spacebar are for the trackpoint/mouse button. I just hope they will do a bluetooth version of the yoda, it would be amazing for htpc and tablets.

I've been looking at buying a mx keyboard and found three in my price range:-

    Cherry MX-Board 3.0 - £53 - Red - ebuyer - build quality is meant to be bad
    Cherry G80 - £53 - amazon/ebuyer - Blue - so so build quality
Corsair K60 - £53 - scan refurb- Red - what condition is it going to turn up in

Has anyone seen any other decent cherry MX keyboards for about £50?

What type of switch are you after? Also, what type of board? (Tenkeyless etc)

Personally I would try to find a little extra dosh and go for a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid at that price point - excellent build quality

Of those three options I'd personally go for the K60 if gaming was my priority and the G80 if typing was my thing. The K60 refurb is a good price, although it will almost certainly have been a repair job so as ever ymmv.

I personally love typing on G80s, even if they do flex an insane amount when twisted. The only keyboard I've ever enjoyed blues on.

The Rapid George has suggested is definitely better built than the other options you've listed, but from your other selections it looks like you might want a numpad.

Consider posting a wanted thread in the marketplace, you never know what might come up in your price range...

The good news is my Phantom has finally arrived. The bad news (which I knew already) is that my plate is MIA...

Hi ho, Hi ho, it's off to CAD I go...

    Thanks for the tips.

I'm not so sure about the switch type. It'll be a present for me; my wife works from home and I'm sure she would benefit from the blues; I'm inclined towards the reds.

tenkyless would be nice but they seem to have a £20 premium.

The cmstorm is £65; definately keep that one in mind but a little out of my price range.

That Yoda board looks amazing, if it can be easily made wireless I'm basically sold, perfect (if not somewhat overkill) for the family media pc :D

Nothing is overkill when this is something you're addicted to :D. Does anyone know where to order it and how much does it cost ?

You can make plates?! or at least CAD plates?! And you haven't let on about this for what reason?! Please help me sort out some designs - want to get some plates made.

What layout are you going to do with your phantom? I like the prof layout (I think it's called that, the one like a plum96 but 1 row less, I think)

My advice for a first board is normally browns if it's mostly for typing with some gaming and reds for mostly gaming with some typing.

Like Margon said - you'd have a captive market if you were able to make plates in the UK as the only source I know of is in the US.

I'd go with Brown switches, as GeorgeK suggests. Good feel, not too heavy an action and they're fairly quiet!

I don't have access to laser cutters, but I did a seven year stint drawing pretty pictures of houses five of which were spent labouring away at autocad. I'm a proud owner of Vectorworks, much nicer than that trash they "teach" at uni.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no CAD/CAAD guru - never had a need to learn BIM for example, but a simple 2D drawing, is not an issue.

I'd been thinking of something like corsair's plate as a case (before they did - or I should say, before I saw their offering - if you'll believe me) but flat, or even with a reverse tilt as that's naturally a better position for wrists.

Well if you sort a plate design I should be able to make it for you for minimal charge - it costs me to use the laser cutters but not much at all, and that's the only cost I would pass on, and materials unless you provided - I think it's about a quid an hour for me to use them where I do, I think but would need to check that.
