(I likely won't sell anything at all, potentially I am being melodramatic, and I do have until the end of June - landlords are rotten, as are their desires to renovate the houses that they own and turn them into wonderful family abodes.)

full story:

there is some legislation or new rule about landlords/ladies having to have some kind of license thing to rent their property out to group of individuals rather than family units etc. and she doesn't want to do that, instead she wants to renovate the house and let it out to a family unit - so we been served papers this morning telling us to be out by the end of June! I get on really well with the agency, so they called us first and have been really nice about it etc. But, it's still the house I've lived in for the last 4 years, so it's annoying, and annoying.

 

That's not a huge amount of time though... Regardless - offer still stands bud

 

Can she do that though? Evict you on such short notice? Here in Holland they have to inform you at least three months in advance.

 

I need to find a place by the end of June too, new job etc. Moving over Nottingham way.

Many, if not most, residential rental agreements offer as little as 30 days notice.

 

Best wishes aside (and you really do deserve them Matt) - this might end up being a bargain tomorrow evening. Not my cuppa, but would be a lot of keyboard if the price was right.

 

Well, I have lived there 4 years now, so it's not a fixed term contract anymore, it's a rolling contract, so yeah, really they are being nice giving us 2 months and a bit as it could be like Spreadie says as little as 1 calendar month. It's bonkers.

Of course, if you make it difficult and don't move out, it would take her months to go through the process of getting you physically ejected.

However, this only works if you're a stinking bum with no assets, because if you're not you'll lose your deposit, all legal costs, your dignity and gain a nice CCJ to prevent you from being able to rent anywhere else
