Hi, I was set to buy an ipod classic today and I asked the sales guy what file formats it plays. His answer of "I dont know" set off a red flag and I decided to do some research on it. Apparently it only plays a small selection of flile types, mp4, mov, and one other. I am trying to find one that plays avi files, divx, stuff like that. And the battery life on the ipod is pretty short too. Anyone have any suggestions on something that is mobile and plays the file types that I want?
Zen Vision series plays avi and DivX for definite (I've got a 30Gb Vision:M) can't help you with any more
ipod touch possibly? What does the Zune play? Friend has one and he seems to love it, though the resolution on my 30 GB iPod video is better than his resolution on his zune.
cowan/cowon or some spelling like that make players that seem to support every format under the sun, dont know how easy they are to find though im afraid
Speaking of Cowon, I've got a Cowon Iaudio A2, 30gb, plays; video; AVI, ASF, WMV, DivX 3.11/4/5, XviD, MPEG4, MPEG1 audio; MP3, WMA(ASF),OGG, FLAC, WAV The A3; http://www.play.com/Electronics/Ele...ronics&keyword=Cowon+A3+30GB+MP3+/+MP4+Player is an updated version of the A2, and has a 30gb hdd, and can play back; video; H.264, WMV7/8/9, DivX 3.11/4/5/6, XviD, MKV, MPEG-4/-2/-1, D1: NTSC 720x480 / PAL 720x576, 30fps audio; MP3, OGG, WMA, AC3, WAV, FLAC, APE, AAC The A3 can record, view ms documents i.e word excel etc, can record video etc. I think for what it can do, it's battery life, etc it's well worth it. I can wholeheartedly reccomend the A3.
That one looks pretty good. I'll have to see if its available in Canada. edit: it is, but wow its expensive. may wait a bit to see if the price drops.
30GB is 330 60GB is 400 80GB is 440 prices are in CDN dollars. It really is an amazing device. When you look at everything it can do, I dont know why I haven't heard of it before now.
yeah cowon aren't a very well known brand even less so in europe, compared to the likes of iriver and creative.
they are laptops, this thread is about media devices. While I understand that a laptop can be used as a media device I am looking for something smaller.
are you replying to my comment? the n800 is under $200, and the n810 (with the slide-out keyboard and better screen) is $350. not incredibly cheap, and you have to buy SD cards for storage, but for the functionality they provide they are a great deal. it's essentially a laptop in a mp3 player form factor.
you can tether it to a cellphone over bluetooth, and that is retardedly expensive, but i just use the wifi. there is no built-in cellular data connection. it was kind of an impulse purchase for me. i had been looking at getting either a cowon A2 or an archos PMP, but was a bit underwhelmed by the features for the price. then i saw a video demo of the nokia on youtube, and ordered one that night. it's great, and i love it, but the screen contrast could be better for movies and tv. if that's all you're going to use it for, you might be better off with a dedicated PMP like the cowon. if you think you might ever benefit from having the internet in your pocket, or you want to be able to play any file you download, then pick up the nokia. also, i don't see the A3's price dropping that much. it's been around for a little while, and cowon products are kind of a premium thing. i have an X5 that i got when they first came out, i paid just over $200 for it. when they went EOL last year, the price had not dropped at all.
