This is the first time I have posted on this site so if I am in the wrong area please forgive the error and please bear with me.

My son received the latest version of the game 'Call of Duty - World at War' as a birthday present. The minimum system requirements for this game are quoted as: OS=Vista/XP, PROC=P4/AMD 3.0 GHz, MEM=512 MB RAM, VID CARD=Shadow 3.0 or better, 256 MB RAM, Geforce 6600GT/ATI or better (onboard chipsets not supported).

The spec of his laptop adequately covers the OS, processor and memory requirement, but the machine has an onboard graphics chipset and so the game will not run.

Conversely, his desktop system satisfies the OS, memory and video card requirement but fails on the processor. The installed processor is a 1.6 GHz P4 and whilst this can be inexpensively upgraded, the system's Biostar U8868 motherboard only supports P4's up to 2.6 GHz.

So my question: will the game run with a 2.6 GHz P4, 1.25 GB RAM and a Geforce 6600GT/ATI card, or if not, can the 2.6 GHz Northwood processor be overclocked to 3.0 GHz on the U8868 motherboard?

If anybody can provide guidance in this respect, I would indeed be most grateful. Thanks.

I'd just install the game on either system and see how it performs. However, the minimum specs usually only just run the game at the very lowest possible settings and therefore looks rubbish.

    I'd advise a full upgrade :)

Thanks for replying guys but I have just learned that the motherboard, while having three PCI slots, does not support PCI-Express. Consequently, the 6600GT graphics card that I was going to salvage from another machine will not work either. So quite right, reggie50, a full upgrade is necessary.

Once again thanks for taking the time to reply. It's appreciated.
