I've currently got 2 x 2gb corsair xms3 ram 9-9-9-24 1.5v on my motherboard, a friend has just given me 2 x 1gb sticks of the same stuff for doing a job for him. My question is, can I use these 4 sticks together on the same board? I presume it would look like this: -------2gb--------- slot 1 -------1gb--------- slot 2 -------2gb--------- slot 3 -------1gb--------- slot 4 or would you put the 2 2gb sticks in slot 1 and 2 and the 1gb sticks in 3 and 4?
depends how the board has the slots paired. if channel A uses slots 1 and 3 and channel B uses slot2 and 4 then i would put 2g in 1 and 2 and 1g in 3 and 4 if channel A uses slots 1 and 2 then use slots 1 and 3 for the 2g and 2 and 4 for the 1g
Agree with the above - put the two 2Gb sticks in dual ccichhannel with each other and then your other two 1GB sticks in dual channel together. As RichCreedy mentioned, which slots you need to use for this setup depends on your motherboard. This information can be found in your motherboard manual.
what mobo you got? as the two poters above say really...my asus h67 uses slot 1 and 2 as channel 1 and slot 3 and 4 as channel 2, i use 2gb sticks in slot 1 and 3 and 1gb sticks in slot 2 and 4.
In that case I'd put your 2GB sticks in slots 1 and 2 and then your 1GB sticks in slots 3 and 4. Good luck!
