    Hi Guys,

I have decided to build myself a new machine for my birthday (in 2 weeks in case anyone wants to send me something nice!!)

I have decided to get a 920 (as they are so cheap at the moment) and lovely new Gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r after reading the review on Bit tech.

The problem is that I am a bit confused (amongst other things) about which memory to get.

now what are you thoughts of any of the following 1600mhz kits?

    Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 6GB

    OCZ gold low voltage

    OCZ gold XTC

    Kingston 6GB HyperX XMP CL8

or maybe the some 6GB ULTRA 2000MHz

Does anyone use Geil? I have seen some good reviews yet hardly any one seems to use them. Is there something that they know that I don’t?

I also have a couple of quick questions. I like my photography and in the future, I may increase my ram to 12GB. Would this cause a problem with overclocking?

Last question, does increasing the memory voltage above 1.65 volts damage the CPU even if its well (water) cooled?

    Thanks for the help guys!

I would be tempted to go for the low voltage stuff. 2 reasons, less heat and power savings. I don't know what it overclocks like but i would imaging quite well because of the lower voltages

get the OCZ low voltage ones cause there the cheapest.

all kits you have listed are identical except the geil ones which are worse cause they have higher timings.

the low voltage OCZ ones arent low voltage though just standard 1.65V like all the other kits.

if your thinking of going to 12Gb of RAM then it may have a slight impact on overclocking because your populating all 6 dimms. you may find your overclock of say 3.8Ghz will drop to around 3.4-3.8Ghz but cant say for sure.

i wouldnt overclock your RAM as it doesnt provide any real world benefit so you shouldnt need to raise the voltage above 1.65V.

overclocking your Memory will also put extra strain on your CPU since thats where the memory controller is and will output extr aheat and would proberly result in a lower CPU overclock.
