Amongst others. Christmas also has its roots in the Roman (Saturnalia) and pagan (Yule or Modraniht) celebrations of Solstice. Meanwhile there are a host of other religious festivals that are celebrated at this time of year, such as Enlightenment Day (Buddhism), Inti Raymi (Solstice in the South American Andes), Dongzhi (winter festival in China), Diwali (Hindi festival of light), Hannukah (Jewish celebrations) and Maslenitsa (Slavic celebration of end of winter). Basically, we're all celebrating that a new light is entering the world, whether it is a prophet or just the first warming sun rays of Spring. A new year, new hopes, new dreams, new opportunities to live, learn and make this world a bit better and get along with each other. By, for instance, wishing each other a happy celebration, the very best for the new year and not squabbling over who 'owns' the meaning of Christmas. Because we all do, in our own way.
Happy Christmas members and mods Hope you all have a great break. And now i'm off back to bed - it's going to be Christmas dinner instead of lunch
Merry X-Mas all, hope you all have a great day and if you're not, just drink more till it becomes fun!
