But it'd ruin you afterwards tbh, they cost a fortune to run and the servicing will make your eyes water.

Plus... the Mustang was MUCH less than 30k! Servicing is easy and cheap, and apart from a fairly sophisticated engine management system (which my mate at Motorsport Developments in Blackpool can deal with) it's a very basic car that any competent home mechanic can deal with.

Also... this costs me £400 to insure, fully comp.

You're right... 30K for a DB7 is a fantastic bargain, but it doesn't end there. Insurance is outrageous, servicing costs are astronomical, and that will be for an old car, plenty of miles etc... this is 4 months old with 2000 miles on it.

Arrrgh! You dry turned the car and I bet those tyres aren't cheap!

I've been a passenger in a Yellow GT which was great fun while messing around but I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with the noise when doing normal journeys! Do you not wish it had a 'quiet' mode for long distance driving?

It's because AMerican imports are specialist cars, and therefore there are specialist insurance companies set up to deal with them. A normal insurance company will not even know what it is, or how to deal with it. I tried loads, and they just said "No".

Apparently, American cars are just really cheap to insure if you use a specialist company. To give you an idea, it was costing me £680 to insure my previous car, a Mondeo ST200.

So as an example Freedom, I bet your dad, should he phone someone like Stevenage Insurance, I bet he'd get a Mustang quote for around £300 or so.

I hate you more now. Awesome video and awesome car but the wait for my car is killing me.

She isnt due for a few more weeks.

To be honest its, not a hard car to maintain. The engine was derived from the ford crown victoria with diferent heads on it. The crown vics around here are good for 500k miles at least before being shiped off to the junk yard. The mustang is a high strung version with one more vale per cylinder witch if properly maintained will last in the 200k range at least. There are beaten up cobras with over 150k on them and they still tick and those have 4v heads. Parts are cheep too.

FYI I would get some motorcraft 50/50 synthetic and regular blend for it and a factory filter for it (flows better than after market filters). The engines vvt relies on that oil and full synthetic is not a good idea.

Over here the mustang is good for about 18mpg city and around 30mpg highway (US gallons not brit gallons)

    It went for £4500.

Very true... very true... Over here tho... You can drive from one end of the coutry to the other and not see another one. If I lived there... I probably wouldn't have bought one to be honest... well.. maybe not :D

You mean you hated me before? Thanks :hehe:

Yeah.. Been reading about viscosity and how it effects the VVT. Apparently, a lot of people over here are using the Ford 5w30 semi stuff and getting good dyno curves, so I may go with that.

The car will only do 4000 a year.. if even that, so longevity shouldnt be a problem. I knew it was a bomb proof engine. It's gearbox that worries me.. the Tremec 3650 has had some issues over teh production run, and any mustang forum you care to mention always has at least 5 threads running where people are moaning about it.

im going to use 5w20 in the sumer and 0w20 in the winter, I am picking up a case of oil a week after she comes in. The oil is cheep too running less than 2bux a quart. The filter is dirt cheep too.

The gearbox is not the highest precision thing around but its not very bad either. If my gearbox goes in the craper then im going to fit a gm 6speed vette trany in it and call it a day.

Wanted to ask you, do you hear any whining from the rear axle gears? If you want to pick up acel the 4.1 gears seem to be the gears of choice but it will sound like crap from the rear as you will hear them running. It seems like you can pick up acel from a solid drive shaft as well as loose weight and god knows this thing needs to be put on a diet @ 3500lb.

In any case, I don't really hate you but I see you playing with your stang and my stang is still at the factory.

No.. my axle is whisper quiet. There is gearbox whine, but that's normal for the Tremec, as is some driveline clatter at low speeds if you're a bit clumsy with the clutch or throttle in first gear.

If you try to shift like a granny, you'll get all kinds of clicks, knocks and clatter from the box. Just change as if you mean business and it's fine.

I always hard shift into second gear anyway after 15mph or so in just about any vehicle I have driven. I'm usually in 3rd gear by the end of my street where I shift into second and then ramble on and back to third.

To me if I shift gently then the fun of standard gearbox is gone, I might as well get an automatic if thats the case.

Its funny though, you complain of gearbox noises and people complain about axle noises on the forum I visit. I will find out for myself when she comes. The only hard thing is to keep her under 3500rpm while she breaks in. I am planing on a break in highway trip of some sort, but I haven't decided where to go that would equate about 300miles each way.

I am also thinking about picking up a filter magnet to monitor engine wear.
