If Rammstein are industrial then I'll nullify myself.

Rammstein are hard rock with undertones of industrial.

Now NIN, that's a popular industrial (mostly) band. But trying to put NIN into one genre is like trying to decide whether you like to lose your left testicle or your right one.

No. Industrial is Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Godflesh, early (first two albums) Pitch Shifter.

4/4 timing, leanings toward programmed drums, bass more prominent than guitars usually (and often no guitars at all), heavy use of vocal samples from movies and such.

NIN ride the wave of nu-dustrial (;))

But can you really call Skinny Puppy and the rest industrial as compared to the oringal industrial bands like Throbbing Gristle, Controlled Bleeding, et al.? I've always kind of put them more towards nu-industrial (like your paraphase of that btw) myself.

Yeah...to me the Skinny Puppy type bands are much closer to the Industrial pioneer type bands than the nu-dustrial bands.

I see it as like the originals (early 80s) and the second wave (late 80s-early 90s) kinda blur together and there's this big gap before the nu-dustrial types.

Hmmm inflated opinion. I actually like nu-metal (well, Korn, the masters), are you going to kill me now?

It's kinda sad how you lot take an elitist view of the music scene. You've gotta like "metal" or you're not cool. Look at the flaming you gave Alekin. All he is guilty of is succuming to media hype. Hell ye, I like Kovenant, Nightwish, Crimson Glory, Maiden, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins - can I be cool now?

No, but it's certainly not my cuppa tea.

Where was that? I like pretty much just those bands I listed (very few metal bands)...and I know I'm still cool, lol

I don't really think he was 'flamed'... If people started giving him crap for liking the aforementioned bands then I would have done something. People corrected him on the genres. Love the intraweb, share your knowledge.

No. You're not allowed to like The Kovenant... It's against forum rules.

I can't believe I took this long to post. *ahem* I shall quote myself here, given the amount of pap in 'charts':

"I'd rather have nu-metal than no metal"

I find myself listening to nu-metal because it actually sounds good. I find it pretty mind boggling that people hate stuff because of what it is, rather than if they like it. For example, I hate Eminem, but I can't deny I like Stan. I hate Oasis, but can't deny I like Champagne Supernova..

Anyway I find it far easier to generalise it into "Rock and everything else" instead of having to pigeonhole everything so finely you end up saying "Well, NIN are in the NIN genre.."

Don't sweat it.. no-one's musical opinion is any more valid than your own. When I was a big, big rock fan I thought if you weren't listening to GnR, The WiLDHEARTS or Pearl Jam, you weren't worth ****, then as it goes on you end up just not being able to deny you like stuff you "shouldn't" and ease out of it.

I'm incredibly pompus about my music tastes.. doesn't make me right.

There are good nu metal bands and there are bad nu metal bands.

For every Linea77 there is an Autonomy.

PS: I am incredibly elitist when it comes to music. I know this...Maybe I should put the disclaimer back in my sig.
