I haven't activated yet, haven't even preloaded it since ideally I want to replay Metro 2033 on Ranger mode first (or at least try :p) but with exams coming up and coursework deadlines before that I haven't got the urge to start it.

At this rate I won't be playing Last Light for a little while :(
It's something I'm certainly looking forward to though considering how much I enjoyed the original (especially since I wasn't expecting to)

Playing this on Normal (for now) then will go for hardened. Mind on Normal Ammo conservation is a must, god knows what Ranger mode is like.

    Enjoying it

I'm liking the game so far, I'm not very far, just past the first area with all the Reds. There's a lot I like about this one compared to the first but a few things I'm not so happy about. The voice of the main character seems different than the one in the first game and personally it's kinda annoying now but thankfully it's only during the loading screens like in the first game so it doesn't really ruin the game. I also think that the levels feel a bit simpler in design than the first game. There doesn't seem to be nearly as much hidden loot or side areas to search which kinda bummed me out.

I do however like the gunplay in this game better than in the first. Everything about the guns feels tighter and easier to use while not being overpowered and turning you into a killing machine. I'm playing on normal. I like the new watch that displays info to the player, it's much easier to use than the one in the first game.

The game runs great too, much better than the first game did though I was playing on an older gpu at the time I have everything turned on except ssaa and nvidia physx and at 1080 it really is a looker. Some of the character animations can be a bit stiff and the lips don't always sync up just right but those are so minor compared to some of the really beautiful areas of the game and how well the lighting is used.

I hope I run into Nikki again in this game. I know she was used in the first game as a short cheap trick to steal some ammo from you and never appeared again but every time I see a redhead in this game I kinda get a lil happy inside thinking maybe it's her and there will be some sorta resolution to that little plot point. Anna is cool too, wish we didn't leave her company so soon but I bet she'll come back later on.

I just finished the game and it is brilliant. It entertained me far more than Bioshock Infinite. it has
significantly more content than the first. More environemts, more enemies/types, better human AI, larger environments. Just great game overall.

Oh and read this article, makes me happy that i supported the devs on release.

I presume those who are already playing got the game from somewhere other than Steam? Apparently I still have to wait 13 hours for it to unlock!

Ah I see - I can't be bothered to do that - I won it in TGS's competition so I am happy to wait for the official unlock! I am glad to see that people are enjoying it though - makes me look forward to it more!

I got my copy from steam but I'm in the US so it's an earlier unlock. There was a slight hitch when the game went live here, the pre-order bonus ranger mode didn't get sent out to people who had pre-ordered/pre-loaded and possibly even those who started downloading the game post launch. It was fixed after a few hours and I was forced to start on regular mode for the night, I woke up later that day during non-gamer-hours and a tiny patch had given us the dlc mode but it was probably really annoying for anyone looking to do that right away. Those steam forums blew up rather quickly.

I can't wait to finish this game, played a little more last night and it's getting pretty gripping now. :D

Steam version got patched this morning as well.

"A new update has been released on Steam, which improves AMD performance and offers FOV customization. Patch notes:

    1. Optimized performance for AMD hardware.
    2. Fixed shadow visual corruption bug on AMD 7xxx cards.
    3. Fixed issue with game starting only in 3:1 resolution on some TV’s.
    4. Added attribute "r_base_fov" in the user.cfg file, which will allow you to change FOV. The attribute will appear in the user.cfg configuration file, located in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\4A Games\Metro LL" after starting up the game.

If the patch does not automatically download for you, restart your Steam client."

The new FOV setting is a welcome addition!!!!!!!!

It is slightly strange that it releases at 11pm here! Oh well, I think I might go and play Mechwarrior online for a bit first!

Hmm, not falling in love with this game at all. Granted I have not got very far, but it seems to be a corridor shooter. I have just been made to drop down a ledge very obviously designed so I can't go back from whence I came (never a good sign) and pounced on by some rather vicious looking doggies. At the same time, a kind lady with a sniper rifle who is supposed to be protecting me isn't doing a very good job. Actually she is not so kind, but rather patronising - she has already congratulated me for having the wherewithal to open a door.

Does it get better than this? Is my expectation of it being a little more 'open' than your standard FPS incorrect? People are obviously enjoying the game, but so far I am not. I am not a fan of corridor shooters (which isn't to diminish the enjoyment others get out of them - fair enough, one man's hovel is another man's castle and all that) and I am wondering if perseverance will reap reward?

Have you played the first game?
The reason it was fantastic (in my opinion at least) wasn't it's 'freedom' which wasn't that great, but it's story and setting (one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played).

Yes, I played the first game (well, until the point it continually crashed anyway) but I remember dialogue and trading and a somewhat different feel. Having played another hour or so of this, I am getting 'Cut Scene, follow someone for a while sequence, door locks behind me, kill some bad guys in a relatively small area, repeat from first step'. It seems much more on rails than the first game, but maybe my memory of it is not correct. I am fully expecting to see a mounted gun mini game sequence at any moment!

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, it's just a bit boring to be honest! It's late so maybe I will continue with a fresher mind tomorrow!

I played it last night for an hour. I quite enjoyed it. Very pretty game, quite fun from what I have done so far, and I like that I can play with a pad. I never use keyboards for games anymore it would seem - even though I know mouse and keyboard is better for aiming etc. and I used to be all about mouse and keyboard, but now, maybe because I am lazy and like to sit back on the lazy boy!

You have how many wonderful mechanical keyboards and you game with a pad?! Heresy! (Admittedly there are some games that I prefer with a pad but not FPSs)

It happened when my g500 broke - and now I am using a POS mouse - I think if I get another G500 then I will go back to mouse and keyboard!

All that money on fancy keyboards then you use a pad anyway. Bad Margon :nono:

It took too long to type that I know.

At least get to the swamps before you pass judgement. It's a sort of pseudo linear game like half-life. There are some corridor areas when in the subways, that have a few hidden nooks where ammo/weapons are stored. Outside it much larger with more stashes and the world is less linear.

Hmmm. I know that Ranger mode is a £4 DLC, or was free with pre-orders. However, although I got a copy of Last Light as part of the nVidia promotion, I didn't get Ranger mode as a pre-order bonus, and will have to shell out for the DLC! That makes me sad :(

Did any of you fine people who got a Last Light code with a GeForce card get Ranger mode (or any of the other pre-order stuff?
