For some odd reason whenever I start up my computer right when it gets to the Windows screen the microphone kicks in and you can hear everything going through the mic. It never did this before. So I go into volume controls and click the mute on the mic. It still works, but now i dont hear whatever I say. Problem fixed? Not quite. I seem to have to redo this whenever I restart or shutdown my computer. It's not getting the fact that I want my mic muted everytime I turn my computer on. Anyone know how to fix?

OK, I'm pretty sure that this isn't a hardware problem, so if there are drivers involved (eg for soundcard), check for updates. If that's not it, then it's hard to say what the problem is without more information - soundcard make and model, OS etc.
