As a slight aside, I was just looking at a couple of websites, and Michael Jackson albums currently occupy 7/10 of the top 10 best seller positions on Play.com and 10/10 of the top 10 on Amazon :sigh:

This leads me on to my point, which applies not only to MJ but to everyone: I have never been able to comprehend why people are compelled to go out and buy the entire back catalogue of someone who has just died. I mean, if you haven't managed to buy any of his albums in the 20 years or so years since they've been released, then the chances are you're actually not that keen on them. So, do they just get better now he's dead? No. Is the money going to a good cause? I doubt it. So why do people buy them? Are people really that influenced by media? I think in a few days/weeks time when people stop caring, as they inevitably will, they're just going to be left £30 out of pocket with a load of albums they realise they never even liked in the first place. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. At least I hope I am.

Sorry for the rant; I didn't want to start another thread and this seemed like the most appropriate place for it.

I was watching something for the weekend earlier and it was announced that as of earlier, of the top 300 singles for the chart 144 of them were jacko songs!! madness. could we end up with the whole top 10 being solely michael jackson?

People are so bizarre. What the hell is it with the top sellers :D

"Wo-hoo, he finally died! Now I can finally listen to his music!"
    or
"Hmm I've always wanted to listen to MJ's music, but it can't be good before he's dead"

    Seriously, what, why?

Nah it's just that he enters the public consciousness again and people remember that they'd meant to buy his album but forgot, and decide to impulse buy. that's pretty much it. I like MJ's music, but don't actually own any of his albums, and must admit was thinking of buying a few now. Although i have no money so i won't be :p

Exactly. One of those reminders about a person means you'll start remembering what they did. Most of his debtors are hoping the current trends for buying a couple of his albums will see at least some of the hundreds of millions he owed repayed.

Good lord, just think about the work load all those catholic priests now have to pick up....

Odd thing is, if jacko died in the late 80's i think more people would be upset as he was a superstar back then, some will debate that he remained a superstar up until his death but i think maddness set in, with the constant plastic surgery and all the problems with children. Mostly he must have been an easy target, one offence and poor people will take a gamble in trying to make some money.

What happens to all of those that bought tickets for the london show? refund? or is this all a big lie and he took the money and his plastic noses and is hiding in the philippines.....

I was just watching some old videos of his, even the Martin Bashir interview he did.

Back then Bashir had twisted the whole meeting with Jackson portrayed some twisted sick pyscho.

I found the Gavin kid and his relationship with him as really odd however (the one that went on to file charges)

He was odd, he was strange but looking back at it he was just a kid at heart and never found any love from his family it seems like.
Allot of who he is and the weirdness stems from that so I think he overcompensates in his own life.
There was allot beneath him that made him the way he was but I feel truely he was just a harmless man that was totally misunderstood.
I was watching his old videos and although I was never a big fan, listening to his songs he has always had the same message of unity and friendship and bringing people together...it felt like he was simply trying to make a mark and have people think of him in a positive light...maybe because his father never gave him the love and so he turned to the world.

I dont know...I just felt very sad watching the old videos thinking there wont ever be a talent like that again...man what a loss to this world.

    My thoughts on Michaels death

It's late so this may not be well structured, so forgive anything that doesn't make sense please.

I have to agree with An4rew, I had forgotten what a great entertainer Michael Jackson was. He hadn't been in the media much lately, and I think that until he announced the This Is It tour people were starting to forget about him (except his hardcore fans). His death has saddened me, because all I can think about is the millions of people who will never get to see or hear him perform live (myself included) or even know what a massive star he was.

I compare his death to that of Elvis because I wasn't around when Elvis died and I can't fully comprehend how big a star he was back then, because I didn't live through it. In the same way, I fear that many people in years to come will never understand how massive and influential an artist and an entertainer Michael was.

He was to me the greatest dancer who ever lived, and also the most popular celebrity in his time. I don't think there is one country in the world where you could go and say his name and people wouldn't know who you were talking about. It's a pity that his life was so filled with controversy and I am one of the few who believe that he was more normal than the media made him out to be. Maybe not in his latter years, but for the most part of his life I think he was much more normal than people thought. His fame seems to have brought him difficulties, both in terms of his mental and physical health and in financial terms, and in the end it killed him.

It's a sad thing for me to think about because people like MJ matter to me. Watching him dance brings a smile to my face, because the way he could move was amazing. Listening to some of my favourite music brings a smile to my face or even tears to my eyes because the people who are playing or singing are so good at what they do and they bring out different emotions in people with their music. I will miss Michael Jackson because he was such a popular star and was the only person wo could dance and sing the way he did. He is quite simply irreplacable.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you can make jokes and rant about people only buyig his music because he is dead all you want, but I will still think that it's a shame he died at such a young age and before his final tour. He wanted to give his fans a final show to remember him by, instead of the controversy of the past few years, but he never got the chance.

Although I somehow doubt it, I hope that he rests in peace, and I really hope that people will carry on his memory for the good things he achieved whilst he was alive.
