I suppose microsoft doesnt want to look like the wolf in amongst the sheep any more. Anyway for customisability linux and variants (open source by nature) will beat Windows hands down every time even with the release of Vista.

LOL, you Bit-Tech make me laugh sometimes. You make it sound like it's a big deal that Microsoft have relationships with other developer teams and companies. The IE team are always arranging meetings with Firefox and Opera team, and discussing things over dinner. For example, the three together settled an agreement that the next edition of their browser should always have a URL bar, and even with pop-ups.

heh. Yeah, well, this isn't IE that's talking to FF's team. This IS a big deal, as it will be the first time that any open-source project has ever been allowed in Microsoft's ISV labs - it also is a big deal since so many users of bit are also users of firefox, and it's a nice thing to know that MS is actually letting them have access to the code that normally is only seen by the likes of bigger commercial devs.

Overall, IE is a little tiny product in comparison to a new OS - and MS is really working to actually give open-source the resources needed to work with Vista...that's a huge step for them, and one that can tell us exactly how seriously MS is taking their commitment to being more open. Particularly since they offer a competing product.

Perhaps it's a James Bond style trap, while they're waiting in a big conference room with a big map showing MS plans for world domination, they'll release poison gas to kill the Firefox devs.

    :hehe:

Im glad to hear MS is making some effort, but in all honesty, Its probably just to improve their image to others, ultimately.

The big news will actually be "Firefox devs leave Redmond alive, with all bones intact". ;)

CMON, MS is not made of retards, they must see as we all do that open source is only going to gain more ground and those who fight it will die. they must learn to adapt to and include open source if they wish to dominate the world and secretly control our lives without anyone realizing....

Microsoft are clearly confident that IE7 will still be used by the vast majority of Vista users, and having used Firefox 2.0b1 for a while now, I can't see why anyone would want to switch to Firefox.

Don't misread my intentions, I will contiune to use Firefox.

who says this is legit ? how do u know that the message was actually by a MS representative ?

you question the legitimacy of the comment from a FF dev, but not from a MS dev ?

Microsoft have never oppposed open-source. They're just a company that doesn't assume that business model. What they do oppose, however, is software that is free and tries to be as advanced as theirs (but obviously fails at doing so).

Improve their image to who? I didn't know it was tattered. People still buy their products regardless don't they?

Maybe Microsoft just wants as few of bugs as possible, and not pull another ME or torrents of patches.

Or perhaps they want to secure an alternative for their Windows N editions.

But judges have been ruling against them because of locking competitors out.

I'd like to believe in a more open, less predatory Macro$loth, but they have quite a history to overcome (every time I think of this I remember the trouble they caused for D.R. DOS - though I was a 4DOS user at the time).
