    From ExtremeTech:

Microsoft's new computer mice, due in September, will take scrolling in a new direction—sideways.

The new innovation underlying Microsoft's next generation of mice is the "tilt wheel", a feature that allows the scroll wheel set between the two mouse buttons to "lean" left and right.

    Full story here

So the scroll wheel becomes - in effect - a joystick. But will the firewheel mod still work? :D

    When there's a will, there's a way :D
Actually if they have a good wireless version i might get it, but it'd have to substantially better than the MX700 to gain any sort of success.

But you can already side scroll by clicking the wheel and moving the mouse left and right.

    I would love a side-ways scroll.

I open very huge excel documents and the current press-and-scroll is just too choppy and ultra-sensative, i miss the data I need by miles quite often.

But I think would want a thumbwheel on the side of my mouse rather then a tilt-a-wheel.
(Isn't that an amusment part ride? :hehe: )

I'd prefer a 2nd mouse wheel as well Zap, especially considering it's already harder than hell to hit the 3rd mouse button without moving the wheel up or down, adding another dimension of possible movement is just going to make things worse. Of course, they could take a hint and make 3 seperate buttons on the body of the mouse (like combining the button layout for the old Intellimouse Explorer, with two thumb buttons, and the new one, adding another for the pinky).

Why not a miniature track ball where the wheel is, you could set it up to either scroll around, or perhaps fine mouse movements.

it would be very useful for me in logic, I don't have a wheel at the moment so I have to use the 3rd button to go left and right and it is annoying to say the least!
