Hmmm...the ideas of "safe" and "microsoft" are completely opposite. This should be interesting...

$5 says that the software gets hacked within the first 3-4 days of public use.

Um, I really wouldn't want to trust an app with my CC details...

Especially one made my MS, who seem to have created some pretty cool issues with carputers too.

IIRC, this isn't the first time Micro$oft has tried something like this... Wasn't there a product called "Microsoft Wallet" in IE 4.01 or something? I didn't trust it then, and I don't plan on trusting it now - unless, of course, my favourite online retailer decideds to switch to using only this type of payment!

At that point I'd find a new favourite online retailer myself... :)

finding my credit card info is childs play, amount of restrants i've had a little too much to drink, and really aren't watching the waiters closely. Point is i'm still covered.

now the problem with this stuff is its like your wallet, now i carry my national insurance number in my wallet, this is kinda stupid, as someone can steal my wallet they've got pretty much everything, my credit cards, my ID, everything they need to userp me. All your eggs in one basket.

however as i was trying to explain to a client, its safer to use key based auth, rather than a password in this specific situation because staff need to know the password in the first place, and people can see it been entered clearly. The same idea can be applied to this, if you have a properly set up secure part of the OS, which can't be interfered with by user mode stuff then its very good idea. Fewer times people enter the details the harder they are to get, you can just focus on making hte barsket very strong. Now under x-windows you can read a password box, the key presses as a standard user program. In win32 you can't as a standard user mode program do that.

But most people run as a user that can (admin) which means every time your entering a password or credit card number. So a safe, well encrypted system, that stops people constantly typing sensative info, is a damn good idea.

    emphasis on safe thou :p

True...key encryption is definitely the way to go for safety. Doubt MS will implement any security measure properly, though..partially due to user simplicity.

Most average users don't have a bloody clue about how to use PGP if they even know what it is.
