Dunno what this problem is but its annoying so if anyone know how to fix it or why its caused would be great ;)

Anyway, when closing down office programs ( word / outlook etc. ) i get an error about macros from microsoft visual basic ;)

    Microsoft Visual Basic:
The Macros in this Project are disabled. Please refer to online help or documentation of th host application to determine how to enable macros.

Well, i know how to turn macros on but not sure if i should? And why is this coming up? It never used till about a week ago..

Anyway, if anyones got any ideas gimme a shout :)

    Thanks,
    Proph.

you possibly have a macro virus. since they are not turned on its not running though.
If you go into word and then tools on the toolbar, click on macro and then macros. (you can also press alt+F8 on my copy)

make sure there are no random macros in the normal.dot file. or any of the templates.

There however is a whole load created on 1/4/2005 by me which i thought was a lil strange cos i never ever use macros to anything, lol... These are under the "All active templates and documents" drop down section.

There is nothing in the normal.dot section tho ;)

Cheers for ya help and any more,

If you never created any macros, only Word commands subsection (Macros in dropdown selection) should have a list of default commands:

    AcceptAllChangesInDoc
    AcceptAllChangesShown

    etc.

All other dropdown options (All active templates and documents, Normal.dot, etc.) should be empty.

Well they all appear under a template called annotate.dot ( global template )

    name such as:
    ActionInitial
    AutoExec.main
    AutoExit.main
    ComposeDate
    FindKxKyValues
    GetAttributes
    Initialization
    PlaceData2Word
    ReadDataFromFile

and the like :/ No idea if theyre good or bad but from what i can see they are the only ones differing from yours neds. And the word commands section appears to have loads of defaults in it like you say sp_1000

    Thanks for ya help guys.

I have had similar problems in the past. Recreating normal.dot always solved it for me. Since it is empty, just rename it as normal.old and run word again. When shutting down it will recreate normal.dot. I don't quite understand what is happening, but this worked for me.

    Based on the following:

I have a full (minus Office Assistant) latest version of MS Office installed with no traces of annotate.dot
There is no mentioning of annotate.dot on microsoft.com
annotate.dot is not listed in any virus databases
Google has some information on annotate.dot

I am concluding that annotate.dot is a third-part utility/add-in for MS Office (and possibly other Windows applications). And as such may exist as:

A full blown application (removable from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel)
A part of another application (removable by uninstalling containing application from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel)
An Office template/add-in/macro (removable from within Office – Tools->Templates and Add-Ins OR Tools->Macro->Macros)

On the other hand, if you are using Annotate for Word (that’s how it seems to be called), lower macros security level to eliminate the error (Tools->Macro->Security).

    Hope this helps!

    Hmm, interesting reading...

jgrade: how do i rename/delete normal.dot? cant find any way of doing it, like i said, ive never ever used macros in all my life on pc's, lol.

sp_1000: never heard of anotate for word so chances are im not running that, not sure what i could have installed which would containe macros either :/

    Close all programs.
    Click Start->Search->For Files and Folders.
    Search for Normal.dot
    Rename the file.

    Or you can browse to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\{USER_NAME}\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
    And rename the file.

Well renamed normal.dot and that had no effect :/ however, i did find that the problem is being caused by the annotate.dot file. I found this by turning the security medium, and it allowed me to see what was being run and if i wanted it to run or not ;)

Anyway, seem to have the problem figured by just clicking no but i have to either set low so i get no warning or medium and click a button everytime office opens something.. :/
