Just looking through the log, it's a lovely piece of furniture and that wooden grill is just superb . nice one When I see stuff like this it just makes me want to do my next mod in wood.

(Sorry it took so long) The results of my experiments: Iron-on Veneer...Sux. (Big surprise) Almost impossible to do accurate mitres. It was OK for small areas but larger areas like the top were a nightmare. They have a 3M adhesive-backed variety that I will try. I did like working with wide widths of veneer. Danish Oil....Good stuff, I will use this stuff again. Cheap materials from Lowes...Suck but it did make the project a challenge....and cheap. Bottom Line...no real surprises. I must say that I would like to see you construct a more creative and complimentary solution to the top airvent however - the floorvent seems like a bit of a copout. Is cheap plywood from your local DIY really crappy stuff? (Yes it is). Is iron-on veneer as bad as it sounds? (Pretty much). Is Danish Oil compatible with lacquer? (Surprisingly yes!). Does satin finish lacquer look better than semi-gloss? (Can't really tell the difference). Have you ever read on a label to try a product out on an inconspicuous surface in order to test it out? That's what this worklog is about. It was never meant for primetime or be compared to my other work. I bought the floor vent to see how it was made. Would I use a floor vent in a real project? No. Would I use it in a cheap experiment? Hell yes because it was bought and paid for. On the bright side...MCM made Engadget, Gizmodo, Boing Boing and the front page of bit-tech before it was even finished. That should give the haters something to suck on for a while.
Thanks. Voted for you too buddy so good luck! BT asked me about putting Usonian in the contest but I turned them down. I half-jokingly suggested MCM mainly because so few people had ever viewed this thread. Thought it would add some good variety to the proceedings. Usonian came in 4th place in a MOTM but MCM never had the chance to compete until now.
I would have thought Usonian would have been the one to go in. I was expecting to see it. But I think it's a case of either or, they are both good enough. It's a nice position to be in though having to pick one. I don't think there's many on here who have had that luxury.
Mission didn't make the 2009 MOTY because they put Ingraham in instead. Mission is my only MOTM winner and it never got to the big show. Weird. I should shut up about now 'cause it sounds like I'm complaining. Usonian didn't need to be in another contest here at BT to confirm its suckage.
