so i dont have a benchtop mill or cnc yet. but i need to mil some alu
i have some milling bits that fit my trim router and am thinking of using the trim router to mill the alu plate. i think i saw a tread where someone did this ( not 100% sure)
can this be done with a trim router?

Don't think so. The forces that are exerted during the milling of metals are surprisingly big. You're most likely to lose control and/or damage the aluminium, the router bits and yourself.

Dutch cedar somehow managed to cut with a router.
I tried it with a 1/8" bit, I found it kicked a lot, and the edge burred, so dragging the router base over the material was impossible.

Holy heck my selective memory. Also, Google search works 1000 times better than in forum search.

The thread might have been mine, I did it with a ball nosed bit on aluminium with a standard electric router.

Cut some 3mm deep channels for heatpipes, it wasn't a pleasant experience and result was mediocre to poor.
