I saw that. Sometimes you wonder how some people function in life.

But that wasn't the best video. Did anyoen else catch this little gem:

I heard he was trying to protect the island with his mustache of power!

Oh well. We have no power, and I'm on my sister-in-law's laptop with a Verizon USB modem. I'm looking forward to getting home to survey the damage. From what I've been able to determine we had no flooding, so my only concern now is the roof.

Stay safe. That's a hell of a blob of weather on the map in the first post. Especially seeing how easy it is for my New England types to forget how gigantic Texas is - that storm looks like it could cover the whole NE region plus NY, if not more.

    Edit - was that pedobear?

Well, I'm home and the power is back on. Ah, the air conditioning feels so good.

I don't have a fence anymore, and my yard is covered in tree branches. We were lucky, though. My brother-in-law's mother had a beach house on Bolivar Peninsula - 'had' being the operative word. It's a good thing she was in Austin at the time.

I am still stunned that people continue to choose to live where they KNOW hurricanes will eventually hit.
Design your dwelling with the bioregion or find some REALLY good insurance.

The financial and election news have completely blacked out what happened after Ike pretty much. My wife has been in contact with some people on a Texas forum and they pretty much agreed how worthless FEMA was. No aid until you had a phone or computer to apply from. Every time they set up pods to give out rations, they would move them as soon as people started to figure out were they were. When rations were handed out (even on the first day) people were told that they shouldn't expect more and to find a way to pull themselves out of it.

Independent organizations and individuals are helping more than the government. We sent money to a group of people who have taken in other families. One place had their fence blow down though and between them there are six dogs to keep things lively. No electricity either - just like you.

I hope all is well.
