I found a bargain at a local pound stretcher, super saver or what ever its called and picked this up for £5.99 Only problem is that it looks a bit cheap and doesn't really fit in with our living room theme so time to mod Not much to do really hense the "mini mod" title The box was then removed to allow access to the time setting device (making something simple sound technical lol) The clock face and mechanism were then fixed onto the new frame and viola a contemporary clock for our living room
Simple and efficient. That's stuning how such a small change can affect the overall look. The original looked common and almost cheap. Now it's classy and design. Great job
i personally would have finished the wood before attaching the clock. now it looks like someone nailed a clock to a 2x4. just my $.02 though....
No, I see what you mean, I'm planning to work it a little when I get some more spare time. I'll either work the wood down to look more rustic or add some aluminium inlays. The last thing I want is to end up with a piece of wood that looks like its just been sent through a planer Thanks guys
I like it a lot. You turned something tacky into something elegant with one simple change. I would leave the wood untouched. It has a beautiful grain and it's natural state contrasts neatly with the polished glass and aluminium engineering, thus softening it. Don't mess with it further. Less is more.
I agree with Nexxo, it's perfect that way. Very simple and pure, that's what I like in this wall clock. I'm now hunting for a pendulum clock to make something like that. Looking for a "skeleton" clock mecanism, probably from a comtoise or Napoleon clock
Thanks Nexxo I was thinking of enhancing the stress marks that the wood naturally has and then applying a light wax, nothing major just tweaking it to look a bit more "natural" Wow that's an awesome idea to start from dude! make sure you put it up as a log once you get started I'm really liking the idea of making a few clocks from scratch now that I have seen how much a basic pendulum movement is!
Yeah, that's awesome stuff. I love old clocks. I have a fusee wall clock in my kitchen. Since my original design for my next PC is too ambitious (CNC cost-wise), I'm thinking of a design inspired by a carriage clock: Speaking of which: GuilleAcoustic, could I borrow your SketchUp model of your mATX mobo with dual EK waterblocked graphic cards?
I think this is really cool, i'm a big fan of modern styalisation, a rustic piece such as this fits in really well for contrast. Good job sir!
Sure you can. I'll send you a link to download it. As I already said, everything I do is free for use, just ask me EDIT : long time I didn't went on ebay. I'm placing auctions on comtoise clock movments (working and "naked" / skeleton). I have one ending in 10 hours, touching wood
