Like all tiny vacuums, they provide very little suction. Already your home vacuum isn't powerful enough to really remove heatsink dust properly.

You want a pushing action, and not a fulling.

At work we use: DataVac Electric Duster, it's like an infinite compressed air can in your had. Electric wire is very long as well. It's Pretty cool and works well. The down side, is that it's very loud. It's not expensive.

    Nope, a couple of reasons why;

    - Vacuum cleaners create static electricity. It's a really bad idea to use them to clean the inside of a computer. I don't care if plenty of people have done it and it's never caused a problem - those people have been lucky and it's still a risk. This is science, I'm not guessing.

    - That particular vaccum cleaner looks rubbish. It also looks like it doesn't suck up dust very well. Yes, that was a joke! But there's also a very important message in that joke. £5.50 hoovers don't hoover anything.

What you need is a medium bristled (CLEAN) 1" paintbrush and a can of compressed air or an air line. I personally use a (30 gal, 120 psi) compressor fed air line with an inline filter drier and ionising nozzle to remove static. There are more expensive and more advanced systems available, but this was the best way for me to adapt my existing compressor for electronics work and prevent excess static charge or moisture in the air flow.

    [edit]

I was ninja'd - Yeah the DataVac is a good tool as well. I don't have one but I've seen the same sort of thing in use in phone repair shops around here.

    WHAT really?
It's like 30-40$ here in Canada (of course without taxes).

    mrpcclean.co.uk£58.80

and those are cheaper, and your right its a lot cheper in canada

    currency exchange rate
    30.00 CAD = 19.0361 GBP
    40.00 CAD = 25.3815 GBP
    ----------------------------------------
    1 CAD = 0.634537 GBP 1 GBP = 1.57595 CAD

how do they justify that, its like half price in canada than it is over here its chuffing ridiculous and extortional

Just get some compressed air from maplin.

Extortional isn't a word, they are made by a US company which would explain the price difference.

Are there any other noteworthy miniature appliances which have made it to market? (barring mini fridges)

The word from the english language that you were looking for was: Extortionate.

And it's not really. They're that much more expensive because they have to be imported here, no other reason.

    Correct.

I was looking into buying a mini compressor that's normally used for airbrushing but they're not exactly cheap either.

If it's any consolation, neither are the big ones. Mine owes me nothing though, it's used every day and has never given me any bother mechanically. You get what you pay for.
