:wallbash: arf! i just got a technics SL-PG3 CD player cuz it was nice and cheap and had an optical output! Now i plug my MD optical cable into it and the red light shines through, so i plug into my Sony MZR500 MD player and press record and play but it says "no signal". Wassup with that!?

Any miracle cures u know of!?

any options to change sample rate?? if they are different then it probably wont work, although I'm not really sure why they would be different!!!

sample rate is the amount of times a second the device samples the analogue signal and interprets it as a digital signal. the standard for cd is 44.1khz.
Thinking about this I would actually be surprised if it was this problem. have you tried the obvious like making sure the optical cable is plugged into the line in and not the mic input on the md recorder?

oh and welcome to the boards!

yeahh, my MD player doesnt even have a mic port, lol and I've made sure the connections are all good and proper. Is it most likely that my MD player has actually boken!? It must be about 2 years old now, but i have never used the optical input cuz i never had a hifi that had an optical output!

lol, and thanks for the welcome! aaah i feel at home now! :D
