I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, but it doesnt have any wireless card in it. I had a look inside and it has an empty minipci slot, but only one antenna lead, usually I find 2 inside laptops, an aux and a main.

Can I just order/scrounge a normal minipci wifi card, and will it work with just the one connection?

    Cheers.

Usually (iirc) wireless cards have one antenna, and a backup, in case the other doesn't get a good signal. Hopefully, with just 1 connected, it'll just stick to that one permanently, either that, or it'll crash... I suppose the only way to find out is to try it. :)

The manual states something about just using the primary-antenna connector on the card, so I'd suspect a regular miniPCI card would do.

I've had major problems getting a Dell TrueMobile card to work in a Dell laptop in the past, but found an Intel 2200BG practically installed itself (I just had to help it with the screws ;))

    Cheers guys :).

I'm planning on fitting the Intel 2200BG or an Atheros 5005whatsit.
