Not having bothered, ever, with any Zelda game at all, or any other console game, for that matter, my vote goes to System Shock 2.

having never successfully played SS2 (it's never seemed to work on any of my PCs EVER), i can't comment. I'm interested to know what the third reason for owning an n64 was.

I can certainly think of more than three!

But i'm glad it was 3rd person, it worked really well and I'm not convinced that the first person view lends itself to that kind of game, they'd have had to alter the game a lot I reckon. But all this is re-writing history. It seems funny that this makes the news page given that OOT is 10 years old, but it's still interesting.

It's not so much a bit-tech debate as a bit-tech/TrustedReviews inter-company dispute. And it's not so much a dispute as Joe being wrong and Ocarina of time clearly being the better game. :D

    System Shock 2.
    SHODAN would kick Ganondorf's ass.
    The Zelda games are overrated.

    This is all.

    Let the flames commence. :p

Your vote is invalid. Ocarina of Time was a fantastic game, by any account. SS2's great too, but you should really play OoT before making such snap judgements. I assure you, you'll find yourself wondering why you hadn't before!

what about perfect dark? I loved playing 4 way split screen multiplayer even if it was on a freaking 21" crt screen. loved playing rounds wtih only remote mines, only proximity mines or the rocket launchers that you could remotely control the rockets.
still Oot kicked ass (I've got it on my gamecube) though I haven't played any of the system shock games.

tch you're all stupid, FF7 is by a very long way the best game ever made. though SS2 and ocarina are definatly top 5 material, along with metal gear solid and half life 2

While it is true that Diddy Kong Racing is a reason to own an N64, the REAL issue here is that SS2 clearly wins the "best of those two" award.

If you're going to say any final fantasy game is the best game ever made it would have to be none other then FF3 but the original FF to me is the best game period plus it did it first. Look at it this way, all games are a waste of time, thats not to say that the game that takes the longest to beat is the best, or the game that looks the most amazing is the best for if it were that the best game would never get here, but rather the game which takes the least amount of time to beat but you play the most because you're having too much fun playing it you don't want it to end, that game has the mark to be one of the best games ever made. Have you ever played a RPG so much that you maxed your character's level? Played the game so much that there is nothing else you can do. Spent tens of hours looking for hidden things, long after you could have beaten the game, stuff that nobody else has found, and you had fun doing it. And then start over and play the game through again because its that much fun( or scary like SS2). But what do i know I've only wasted my whole life looking for the next best thing to the original final fantasy, because it was that good, and in the process I've played alot of great games but have never wasted as much time as i did on the original final fantasy of FF3 for that matter. So if you have got the same reasons as to why you're calling (insert what you think is the greatest game here) the greatest game ever made remember i said it first. Oh and i wouldn't have my life any other way.

Haven't played both. But given that was around the time Half Life(before/after, I'm not too sure) came out, I'd probably lean more towards System Shock 2.

I got into Zelda through Majora's Mask. Yes, I own an N64 and missed out on OoT, because I knew nothing about Zelda when I bought my N64, which was years after OoT came out. My attempts on OoT were only on emulators, but it got me bored due to the fact that I'm using a 2003 hardware to play a late 90's console game using a keyboard, clearly not the way it is meant to be played. Still, Majora's Mask was a fantastic game, followed by Wind Waker which has an unprecedented level of charm. Twilight is ok for me, nothing to complain, but nothing to write home about either. I didn't grow up playing Zelda games since the 2D days, instead I got hooked by one of the side story games.

I always take the view that every game is unique, and if it is worth playing at all, then it must be a decent game. if I enjoyed it, it mst be a good game, and if I really loved playing it, it never gets resold. :D
